Blaming Jacko for our performances is wild, he didn't fluke the treble last season, he has so little to work with on and off the pitch this year, the squad isn't good enough or fit enough and the key injuries in the spine of the squad are telling. By the end of the second half the majority of the players that were on the pitch were either playing NPL 1 or NPL 2 a few months ago, against a side that are expected to compete for the Champions League and J-league every year. The pleasing element is that the kids are doing very well, the concerning element is our new visa signings certainly are not.

Unlike most of you, i was at the game. I saw True Believer and Style Cafe but not many others.

We were outclassed by a quality side but our squad is so skinny and we have no real leaders.

I don't want to pick on individuals but i will highlight Goal 2 and Goal 3 for basic fundamental errors.

The Japs blocked almost all of our chances by getting a man between the ball and the goal.....its basic stuff you learn as a kid.

Goal 2.....the crucial block by Harry is not attempted, he actually turns away and they consequently score.

Goal 3........freeze the frame when their player is about to make the assist. We are 5 v 3. NOT ONE Yokohama player is picked up ( and player 4 runs into shot completely untracked). Steele dives in hopelessy and Brian and Alfie dont close down the shot.

In the credit department we battled well. It was good to see Theo back and Eames at 16yo was our best player. Paull is slowly improving. Kaltak while sloppy with his closing down and marking did some great stuff overall.

But its not all doom and gloom as our Triple winning team would have struggled against this team but it did highlight how we have not replaced Faz, Niz, Max, Tulio, Vuka and Angel with anything like the same quality

I was at the game, Jim. Don’t disagree with your summary.

It's pretty undisputed that the J-League is a better league than ours at this point.

But Yokohama are also a side that played on Saturday anshad to travel 8 hours and quite frankly we were far from being even vaguely competitive. Despite having the bye at the weekend we looked lethargic and uninterested.

My main issue with Jacko and Danny is there were winnable games and get able points so far. We should at the very least be on more than 1 point. But we weren't pragmatic and expected to play the same way we do in the A-League. Even with a much weakened side through injury.

As a club and as a league we are more than capable of beating a visiting Thai League side in Buriam. More than capable of beating a visiting Chinese side and being able to snatch a point on the road.

Jacko and Danny are great coaches who deserve plaudits for the treble last season. But they shouldn't escape criticism when they have ignored a ton of history of how Australian sides are successful in this competition.

I doubt at the moment this team wouldn't even compete in the A-League that we won last year.....
It absolutely wouldn’t.

Still can’t score. Still can’t defend. Teams like Sydney and *gulp* Auckland are going to eat us for dinner, if there anything left after the Japanese banquet tonight.

I watched the game intently and the thing that comes to mind is watching broken parts pf a machine try to work as a whole and failing. Perhaps broken isn’t the right word, but they aren’t the right parts for the machine and parts are missing. The end result is that some parts are working extra hard to compensate, while some don’t work at all and consequently the machine is clunky and struggling and failing.

They aren’t the right parts. That’s my verdict and forecast 😞

The team/squad is not what it was last season. We have lost a heap of quality players.

We also have been unlucky with injuries compared to the last two years. This is not that team that MJ intended to put out at the beginning of the season. that said - MJ's recruitment does not seem to be anywhere near the level of Monty and Serge. Monty was fairly ruthless if OS players didn't shape, I wonder whether Jacko will be the same.

I'm not going to dwell on negatives but just make an observation that DPC seemed to be a lot more vocal than I have seen him before. With Brian being a 'quiet' leader on the pitch and with Trent out I think this is a good development.

Little to add to previous comments as we were totally outclassed. The commentator gave me the shits with his condescending attitude towards our team though we did look like a rabble at times.

I knew that this ACL Elite comp would be too much for us and even with Nisbet and Balard we would still struggle.

This.
I left the game feeling mildly positive about only conceding one more in the second half and not having a true disgrace score mounted against us by a team that was a level above. (Being honest, I don't think our treble winning lineup last year was going to beat YFM last night either). I watched the replay later to see what the usually knowledgeable balanced, objective English commentary felt and was gutted. "Men against boys"... (But somehow I personally still think our current squad can make the six this season)

My highlight of the night was getting a glimpse in a longer cameo of how bloody good Haine Eames is going to become.

Maraugis does keep leaving his player completely unmarked. The whole defence is shonky tbh.....not sure if they are playing some type of zonal marking or just ball watch like inexperienced kids.
Fazz was an appalling ball watcher in his first two seasons. Difference was that he was an awesome tackler and recovered his position quickly once he'd realised. I do remember him getting targeted a couple of times and that far post header from Nabbout when Fazz didn't know he was there was very frustrating.

Once he got that out of his game his ticket to Europe (and soon the Socceroos) was sorted.

I was there. I went with high hopes, feeling like we were on the verge of a win but realised fairly quickly that it wasn’t going to be. I don’t have the football knowledge or brain to analyse a game, I just go as a fan and love our team. I do like reading the analysis on here though, so thanks. I left disappointed, hoping we can get it together for Sunday.
