Mariners V Pohang Steelers

Was v.scrappy but defence looks much better with Huke in front. Although there was not much from Pohang in attack.

Still signs were good and when Huke gets to full fitness then i think he will be a good buy.

We did not resort to long ball much at all and in doing so Pedj was really found out with the ball at his feet. He really needs to work on his ball work cause he gets himself into good places only to give it up with poor touch. A lot of nerves were evident. I think that the guys really need that first goal and then they might start to settle a bit.

Not brilliant but there were signs of life. Bring on China.

Just Got Home
Thought Mrdja Didnt Work Enough  :yellowcard: Matty Worked His Ass Off, Huke Was Hopeless Didnt Contribute Anything To The Team  :redcard:,  I Think If We Wanna Progress To The Next Stage We Need Caceres On The Pitch For The Majority Of The Game, Without Him We Are Stale And Predictable. On The Positive Side A CLEAN SHEET! That Is Very Rare For Us These Days.

Completely disagree about Huke, he was very potent and very hard working, i rarely saw him jogging and his touches were always intelligent and away from a player, contrast this to Matt Simons first touch where he stamps both feet on the ground then takes an eternity to accelerate off away, Huke will be huge for us, you heard it here first...

He has walked into a starting spot in our first ever ACL game without playing a competitive fixture since November, Merenda struggled to stand out in our youth league, apples and oranges methinks..

Anyway, from what i saw he had a fair amount in most tackles, distributed well and was really a breath of fresh air in the midfield that im so used to seeing stale long balls and bad first touches, he will only get better with time and i think your gonna be very surprised over the next few games.

well had a few moments to stew it over
im actually happy with the result, i thought we would leak goals but overall the defence was alot better tonight...

hopefully this is something we can build on and create more opportunities and be a little less wasteful in front of goal - matty worked his ass off but poor finishing

Well at least we didnt lose. We should have but thankfully looked much more solid with Huke screening.

Our basic skills are absolutely woeful. Cant pass, cant control the ball, no movement. Whoever thinks we dont need a coaching revamp is blind IMHO.

FWIW

Danny - V Solid, quality save at the death

Porter - V little to do as they ripped us a new one down the left all night. Why oh why isnt he playing right mid? Greedy bastards wont let him take free kicks either.

Wilko - Usual insipid non leader performance

Boogs - At least he plays like he gives a shit

Pedj - Absolute shocker - cant recall a player losing it so far, so fast. The new Vuko T? Positioning is poor, no pace, no control - awful

Osman - Worked hard, often isolated

Huke - No Mile but will be a very solid buy for us quality player

Hutch - Simply shit - sorry but he adds nothing to our MF

Heff - Wasted at left mid, the decision to play him in front of Pedj looked a balls up from the off but we didnt change it.

Matty - Sadly probably the worst I have ever seen him play. A blip I hope (or Arnolds influence)

Mrdja - Clearly unfit, wont run, cant jump

Subs:

Caceres - provided the quality that Hutch cant - why benched??
Elrich - clearly half fit at best - waste of a spot

Pohang - good, organised but beatable, we just dont have the MF quality

what's the crowd?

I thought there may have been a little bit more, but really are those idiotic bus shelters so bad that the whole lower teir of the western stand is restricted view?

I wonder if the crowd figure took into account all the second entries that were being rung up? When I came through it almost seemed every second person was being let in by a swipe from security.

And the Dumbass Lack of Foresight Award goes to Gosford City Council for deciding to shut down York St for roadworks on the night of a Football Match. It took me 45 mins to get home, where it normally takes 10. There are probably poor people still sitting in that traffic jam.

Very scrappy game IMHO, I reckon our defence looked ok tonight although Pohang didn't really attack all that much. Who else wanted to shove that whistle up the referees backside?

He was consitently inconsistant.

But that decision against Hef when he'd pulled out, missed the bloke and they still had the ball was mystifying in the extreme.

do you actually know what you are talking about ??? he was a stand out on effort alone let alone him screaming at players for positioning...

Not the best effort from the boys, but a little better than the garbage that we've seen in earlier matches this year. Granted Pohang were unlucky to miss two goals, but we were in the same category. The amount of diving from them was shocking- and the fact that the ref bought into most of it was even worse. He made Breeze look impartial on many occasions!

Someone should have informed Pohang Divers the pool was a bit further up the road. Never knew the national Korean diving team played footy too... main ref was shit and that Malaysian AR had to be blind. A draw is better than a loss though, so I'm content.

yep I'd agree wih that. Huke was decent too I think. Caseras should have came on much earlier and replaced Hutch. Elrich didnt really get much game time to do anything.

Mate not sure you got the player's number right.... IMO he was the best on park tonight... his defensive effort was first rate .... he closed down the center of the park and for the first time this year no attacks came thought the center of the park ... until he was replaced.

Huke plays a role similar to Viney's role in the Socceroos... why we did not sign him for the last three rounds and the finals is a question that must be asked.
