Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Lachie wanted a 2 year deal at the time, we only offered 1. City gave him 2 years, and as far as I’m aware it was on the same or just slightly above the salary we offered at the time. He just wanted some security. Dumb move by the decision makers back then.
100% I called Sean & Mulvey out on it at the time to their faces too.

It was 50/50. At the end of the day it's a choice with young players and I don't think it went that wrong.

At the time he had played stuff all games and was barely more than another buhajiar. Its not like he was tearing it up to make you want to jump at 2 years.

Its not like in 6 years in Melbourne he was a dominant attacking player. He scored 17 goals in 160 games His best season was 4 goals.

Maybe he is handy in the dark years but he doesn't make those teams that much better.

I don't see him getting in either the GF winning squad or the treble team 🤷🏻‍♂️

Horse shit, the fans wanted him badly, it was a very unpopular decision. His goal stats mean nothing. Look at his assists. We need assists.

Well if the fans wanted it, obviously that is what should have happened.

Unpopular decisions are what football clubs make all the time.

We create chances - we need goals.

He isn't worth paying overs for now just as he wasn't worth paying overs for then.

I was disappointed when he left - simply because he was a Coastie. But the bolded comment is the important point. We paid overs for some poor footballers in our lean years. I'd rather we pay what they are worth and give our youth a chance.

I know fans who didn't want him. Still don't.
As said earlier he barely makes the bench in the past 2 seasons and being better than Theo and Felatio is nothing to brag about.

Sorry but Wales had done the hard yards playing for nickels and putting in community time on top of that, so he deserved two years on minimum wage imho, especially if the club was even remotely genuine about promoting our academy pathway.

I'm sorry? A 20 year old did the "hard yards" playing for nickels and dimes? He played 11 friggin games for us.

Isn't community time part of the deal? Or at least it used to be when they did club visits and came to junior presentation days and things.

My understanding was that it was still not much more than minimum wage but he wanted the surety of at least two years. At the time it was not an unreasonable request.
But not unreasonable for the club to only want to offer 1 at the same time.

That's my point though, I'm not saying that he was asking stupid money, but he wasn't and still isn't the player that if the club has a limit in mind that they should be pushing to sign at all costs.

D’accord. Not unreasonable from the club either.

Whilst I'm not a fan he basically went through our youth system for expenses only.
Given how shit we were, there were players worse than him getting deals so 2 years then was fair.
Maybe the club (who saw him every day) didn't really think he was worth it?

You could apply that logic to any youth player that gets released or offered a short deal.. well he went through the youth system for expenses so we should automatically offer what he is looking for.

He's a mid level player - not horrible, not outstanding. And that's how he was then.

Its not like in that year he had a garang or irankunda vibe that you would automatically take the gamble on a longer contract.

He probably makes the team at the time slightly better. But that's all. He's not carrying players to push into the top 6 from the wooden spoon position.
