ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!
If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.
ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.
Thanks JP, absolutely love this type of media, nice bite size intro. Theo is growing on me more and more
I`ve been involved with football for over 50 years and have never seen a player choke on gum at any level of football...I often see players chewing something like gum on the pitch. Why is that? It would be so easy to choke on but seems widespread. If they are nicotine fiends surely a patch would be safer
Good old Google
Gum chewing during sports has been largely believed to increase brain activity, as the act of chewing actually improves various bodily functions. Information from sensory organs generated by the movement of chewing is transmitted to the nerves, resulting in enhanced activity in the brain cortex.
. thanks for that. i now have something to trot out when a player has a brain fade
. imagine in the Dingo all access episode if the half time talk had have started with Monty saying ... Dan, chew some f**king gum
So many do it so not that strange…. I can see why though that its not common in heavy/sudden contact sports like league&AflThanks SC, so it IS chewing gum? Strange habit for adult athletes.

Over 45 anything, mate! I need it to wake up and go to the gym hahaCaffeine and neurofen before a game. The drugs of choice for over 45s footballers.
I thought it also stimulates saliva production so they aren’t dry in the mouth all the time.I have my doubts that's the effect of chewing gum on the brain. Happy to stand corrected by anyone with actual knowledge, absolutely, but suspect this is one of those urban myths that propogates itself.
Probably more a superstition than anything

and speed and Peruvian marching dust and Jack daniels and acid and Chardonnay and pot and mescaline …..Jimmy Barnes used vodka.
Vodka, hey?Look at some of the later videos of John Lennon singing and you will see he is chewing gum.
A common technique use by singers to keep their throat moist.
