FFA CEO James Johnson celebrated the decision, saying it allows the season to have a conclusion of sorts.

“While it’s mathematically possible for three teams to overtake Sydney FC on the ladder, realistically we knew this wouldn’t happen and it’s good to give the competition and betting markets some closure with the awarding of the Premiership,” explained Johnson.

“I want to point out that this decision was made entirely for football reasons and has nothing to do with favouritism of Sydney FC or the fact some of our board members are Sydney FC fans.

“Looking ahead, if we can’t restart the finals series by the beginning of May, we’ll also award Sydney the Championship too, because we all know the best team each year wins the Grand Final and it has nothing to do with just a bit of luck on the day.”

Was watching some old game highlights and match replays today to kill some time. Not only am I further certain that the Mariners have changed, but the quality of the league has as well.

I have no doubt that when Brisbane and the Mariners were dominating that the league was of a higher quality. Ange and Arnie were a level above and they pulled the rest of the league up behind them.

Unfortunately we'll need at least ultra-high-net-worth ($30m+), afaik MC is considered ver-high-net-worth and he's struggling.

To our valued Mariners Member,

I write to you as we find ourselves in the midst of an unprecedented time. I must start by saying I hope this finds you safe and well, and also to thank you for your continued support of the Central Coast Mariners.

What we are experiencing is a potential global catastrophe not experienced since the 1940’s and I fully appreciate that football is not and should not be our priority right now.

Not since the second World War has football ground to a halt and we must appreciate the dangers at hand especially to those of an older generation and to those with pre-existing medical conditions. What is vitally important is that you and your family stay safe and follow the government guidelines so we can all flatten the curve together.

Regardless of how COVID-19 is affecting our lives, I’d still like to bring you up to date with the key initiatives involving the Mariners whilst our season has been suspended. We’ve always been a central part of the community in many ways bringing people together in both the good, the great and sometimes ghastly times – something the best community football clubs do.

Our club, like the majority of A-League clubs, has been forced to take measures to minimise the huge financial impact that is a flow-on effect of the league being placed on hold. This has included the mothballing of all Football operations and reducing the administrative staff to a bare minimum through stand downs.

Despite this, the skeleton staff and limited resources we still have available right now are fully focussed on what we can do to give back to the community in this the most testing of times.

To support our community in these times of need we’ll launch on Thursday the Mariners Community Support line to assist our Members in the community who are most in need. You can find out more about the initiative here.

Our club will connect directly with people, be a friendly ear, and maybe even do the shopping where necessary as we work together to navigate the world as it lies now. We will do our research and make calls to find out how and where we can help, within the scope of current restrictions.

If we can help get some Tomato Sauce or a pantry staple from Masterfoods to someone who can’t get to the shops, or help connect you and get a better internet connection from Mate for your office at home then we will do what we can to give our members as much support as possible.

Since my initial involvement over 10 years ago our biggest priority has been finding solutions to make the club a long term sustainable football club that can attract new investors and subsequently secure our long term future on the Central Coast. This has involved working towards an independently owned A-League and building revenue streams that would support the core business of football.

It is important though, we ensure that on the other side of this crisis, whenever it ends, that the Central Coast Mariners still exist. So it is important now more than ever that those who have the ability to help our club step forward and assist us in building a bright secure future so we can continue to add value in our community.

The Central Coast Mariners will this week launch the Mariners Community Support program to provide assistance and support to Members and the Central Coast Community during the unprecedented and ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

Beginning on Thursday the Mariners will contact Members in what is considered the ‘at-risk’ category for COVID-19, ensuring those who they speak to are educated and prepared for the time ahead and helping out with supplies or shopping where necessary.

A page will be set up on ccmariners.com.au as a dedicated hub for resources relating to the crisis including contact numbers, fact sheets and links to relevant health authorities.

Mariners CEO Shaun Mielekamp said it is an important time for the Club to play it’s role in the Community and support those who have supported it for so long.

“We’re really excited to get this initiative off the ground, and start reaching out to Members immediately,” Mielekamp said.

“It’s such an important time for us all to band together and work to get through this, and the Club has a part to play in that.”

“This project will start off small but we’ll look to grow it into a program that can benefit as many people as possible, and provide wide-ranging support to the Central Coast community.”

Mariners TV to return on Thursday night

MarinersTV is back, returning to the Central Coast Mariners Facebook page from 3:30pm on Thursday afternoon, presented by JC Entertainment and Events.
After premiering ahead of the Hyundai A-League Round 24 clash with Melbourne City at Central Coast Stadium, the show will return, hosted by Tyson Scott and Carly Carmichael.
Tyson was interviewed on the inaugural episode whilst in a 14-day quarantine period, after he had beaten the lockdown of Milan in early March before COVID-19 forced an early return from Europe where he was partway through a FIFA Masters course.
Tyson and Carly will be joined by special guests (via videolink) including former Mariners ‘keeper Maty Ryan, Head Coach Alen Stajcic and former players Nick Montgomery and Andre Gumprecht as they take on the challenge of managing Academy programs in the current climate.

Me too mate. Was ready for the US summer sport calendar. MLB, NFL.

Mates and I have been talking adult shit on our WhatsApp group. Even getting philosophical about the future of sport streaming. Like wtf?!
