Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Grand final venue - history lesson please

Can anyone please tell me why the first A-League GF was played at Aussie Stadium, the home ground of one of the combatants and against every value of fairness and decency, and could this happen again?
Thanks.

Not always.....................

Winners of the Major Semi host the GF unless the FFa decide they can gouge more $$ out of fans by moving it to another City.

They also dont need to cover additional travel costs or make any effort whatsoever to help fans get there.

Don't know.

GF venue should be Football Park or Docklands.

If Adelaide & Melbourne completely disintegrate, then SFS or Lang Park.

No neutral venue yet - though FFA have not ruled out a fixed venue as far as I know.

Advantage to the first team into the grand final is part of the mix and will usually end up being the case ... but the ground is chosen by the FFA in so called consultation with the clubs. They will go for the biggest crowd/best servicing of their sponsors. The field is limited due to the limited number of suitable grounds.

The grounds that could be "worthy" of hosting the post season cup final would be (IMHO)

ANZ Stadium (NSW) - Not SFS for Cup Final farken
Suncorp (Qld)
Docklands (Melb)

In all honesty, SA and WA dont have grounds that measure up to those 3.

Logic would dictate that these grounds are locked in as venues as they cover off 7 of the 10 teams in the league (from next year) if they are the winners of the major semi.

Agree its unfair to Adelaide and Perth but then their Govts need to provide a stadium.

QLD vs. Mariners GF at a packed Suncorp, a purpose built football stadium that sounds loud when there's barely 10 000 in there all on the lower level??

Yes please.

I have wondered what would happen if AU won the right to hold the grand final, where would they hold it.

Adelaide oval,

Likewise Glory would play it at subiaco

Hindmarsh is good enough for the second leg of the ACL final, yet FFA don't think it's good enough for the GF...likewise Bluetongue (should we make it that far this year).

Seems a bit silly IMHO.

Thats what i thought, and from what i understand about those grounds is that they are top facilities. So why havnt they been discussed with regards to the world cup in hosting games???

they're anything but top facilities. WA has been talking about replacing subiaco for decades (that's how long it's been outdated and crumbling), and in any case the surface is 190m long - putting fans directly behind the goals a minimum of 42.5m behind the goals.

adelaide's a similar length, has a turf wicket in the middle, grass hills and the capacity is too small. for football park (the other big ground in adelaide), read what i wrote about subi again.
