If it turns to to be untrue hopefully it will be the end of Cockerill.  There are some massive, massive claims in that article to be getting wrong.

You want the second best football journo in Australia gone......... why??

You want ANY specialist football journalist in Australia gone ... why?

Jesse Fink wouldn't be missed.....  ;)

Calling him a "journalist" is a bit much though.

Ben Buckley to face the media in an hour

SYDNEY
9 April 2010

Football Federation Australia (FFA) today announced that Archie Fraser has resigned as the
Head of the Hyundai A-League.

The FFA proposes to continue to draw on Fraser's knowledge and experience, based out of
his home state of Queensland, with a particular focus on the Hyundai A-League clubs in
Queensland and ensuring momentum is maintained with North Queensland Fury.

Fraser, who has worked for FFA for more than a year, has been commuting between Sydney and
his family home on the Gold Coast and has undertaken extensive travel with his position.

FFA CEO Ben Buckley said the proposed new arrangement will enable him to move back to
Queensland with the capability to continue important strategic and operational work for FFA
in the key Queensland market.

"I want to thank Archie for his outstanding contribution in the role of Head of Hyundai
A-League since joining us last February," Buckley said.

"It has been both a very challenging and very successful year for the A-League with the
expansion to a ten team competition, and whilst presenting some challenges, it underpinned a
growth of over 300,000 in additional spectators.

"Archie has brought to his role a high level of commercial acumen as well as a deep
understanding of football and club operations."

Buckley said the FFA would now begin the search for a new Head of A-League.

In response to media reports today, Buckley said the Gold Coast United licence had not been
terminated.

"We have been talking to the club for some time about options around restructuring to
further its development as a viable long term operation," Buckley said.

"Discussions are continuing and include looking at how we can work together to attract
further sponsorship and investment and better ways to engage local community support for the
club.

"In the mean time the club has confirmed that it is business as usual."

Cockerill is either bang on and they're in denial, or his source fucked up big time.

Conspiracy theory?

Fat f**k wants out, thinks FAA will cover for him (they have with all the other clubs)

FFA grow a pair and call his bluff

Meanwhile Fraser has blabbed to Cockerill who writes the story

Fat f**k has to back down and Fraser gets punted as scapegoat/for leaking

Its not like Cockerill to be 100% wrong. Smoke/fire applies

Surely in the license it states that clive has supply x amount of dollars for y amount of years?  and if he still wants out the ffa takes action to claim that money

Didn't happen with NQ, or Adelaide, or Brisbane, or Perth ... it is only the magnitude rather than the principle that is different.

He's playing poker with the FFA, he wants more of the revenue to flow to the clubs.

FFA look to have called his bluff. S E Qld is not exactly a sporting hotbed and going there was in hindsight, stupid over (say) Wollongong.

I sure hope so, even though I really don't want GCU folding. But if they back down here, after the numerous back downs in the past, there will be little respect left in terms of bargaining circles with them.

I have been away for the last three days and hell what can happen in 3 days...

To me it seems Fat Tony was chosen for all the wrong reasons... i.e. money BUT having done that they did not tire him down ... Hope common sense prevails and Fat Tony leaves or move over stays as a sponsor and lets someone with football blood take over.

On AF seems to me crowds were down last season and the A-League was his baby ... my reading of the tea leafs is Obie Wan and some of the clubs were not happy with a number of FFA decisions... the Home Ends... general relationship between media and FFA ... some quite bad articles (eg Timmy Cahill) ... Terror stopped for a long while Football Fervor on Tuesdays... lack of A-League promotion.. the loss of AU & Roar crowds when under FFA control... maybe some real pressure on AF maybe not all his fault but he was the Head of the A-League and of course her name slips my mind but the lady the left FFA a few months back... some say it was over AF handling of A-League matters...

Adelaides crowds were very good this year for a shit team?

Dont really know exactly what fraser did anywhere. Dont know if it is a loss or not.

No one really knows what jabba is doing. Sounds from the ffa seem to suggest he threatened to pull out, but seems he changed his mind

Wonderful work from the 'second-best football journo in Aus'.  Makes a bunch of big claims, is proved wrong on everything, and gets straight back into his agenda driven mumbo-jumbo while frantically back-pedalling to cover the fact that he made a complete and utter fool of himself.  Fantastic.

Granted, there really isn't much better out there.  But Cockerill is a pretty bloody terrible journo who has almost as much difficulty keeping his agendas out of his stories as Craig 'I got laughed out of the Nou Camp' Foster.
