ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Fury on the Brink

Interesting. I wouldn't want to be in the councils shoes atm.
http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/les-murray/news/973531/Fury-crisis-deepens

In a bizarre twist to the affair, Townsvilles mayor Les Tyrell was at all three meetings as he seeks to discover whether golf course guru Mathesons looming exit from the loss-making club is going to result in the council forfeiting the $1 million guarantee it put up to help the Fury get off the ground.

I think YF work hand in hand with the club and the ground authorities. They have a positive, cooperative relationship. This is different to 'letting them be'. They're actually fostering and building the support.

The Cove is the same, ridiculously good relationship with the club and SFS security that allows for discussion of issues and beign able to do whatever they like really.  And problems get sorted out in discussion rather than by cops mostly.  Of course a strong history of self-policing rather than just standing back and letting your own idiot element get out of control and saying 'its not our problem' does help.

I can recall reading somewhere that NQF needed to average 12, 000 at home games break even...

This means a 50% increase in their crowd to Break Even... would not have investors running... I said at the time this was a risky team... they may go belly up... maybe they are in their for the WC bid if we need an extra stadium who knows ...

Maybe it time to cut the cord ... or accept Fox's offer ... the next 12 months will be testing... FFA need to be careful in their decision making...

Nix a strong club maybe kicked out... ACT team needed for the WC bid stadium ... Con at the Scum...

Maybe move the licence to the ACT .. cut our losses... not a good look... but face facts build the crowd to 12 to 14 K will not be easy... ACT team  is fully backed by ACT Gov...

I only ever read it at 8or 8.5k.

There must have been big non football costs?

Cant see it getting cut free, To assume canberra, which does not have the funding that the fury did, even though they lost investors early, will be a better option, and will gate bigger crowds than what i think is a very decent 7k average 1st up is wrong i think.

Canberra will have similar 1st year problems.

That said all the recent articles have many different figures in them. Read just a few weeks ago fury would lose about 5mil, but has gone up all the way to 6mil, which is on par with sydney fc.

If they ditch fowler, then they would be back down to 4mil or so. If crowds increase next season, which as an average they should as they grew over the year, then the losses start getting smaller.

ACT govt only backed the team to 2.5mil, and they still fell short of the 6mil required.
Fury have a backing of 1mil from townsville council.

If they can get more owners, and not rely on one, which was never their plan, they should be able to build well enough.

Would be a shame IMO if the fury were booted, and the gold coast remained

Fury have stated in the last week that 1 mill will be cut from running costs. (no idea how or where) They will likely let Fowler go by agreement, their #1 attraction, to save another million. They will also likely spend only the minimum salary floor, meaning lack of talent. Putting all this together, running on the smell of an oily rag, lack of competitiveness in the player market and loss of the main attraction doesn't add up to a healthy 2nd season on or off the pitch.

Though fowler has brought more people out this year away from home, i dont personally think he is having much effect at home once the people have come through the gates before. NQ games are the only games where there are not a bunch of torres reds constantly

He has been a very big marketing tool re sponsorship attraction and club exposure. Without him in the squad this season the rest of the country would have heard little of fury.

rest of the counrt yes. How many people after 1 game do you think come back just to see fowler?
And that came along initially for that reason but stayed on, will stay on without him. Any that didnt, wont come this year because he is there.

I dont think Fury have done well with sponsors, part of the reason they are in this trouble

i feel sorry for matheson that he had these presumed long tem " investors" bail on him (should talk to branson) and pretty impressed that he hasnt just thrown it all down the drain, perhaps he and serepisos should talk if nix licence is revoked?

This has to be sorted - and sorted soon.

Last year Fury has an unsettled pre-season with players coming and going. If the current uncertainty continues they will likely have another unsettled pre-season. I think that they played decent football once they got going last year.

We also would probably like Townsville for the World Cup bid - so the FFA needs to make sure that they do not go under.

yeah no chance fowler will coach or return as the same wages wont be on offer.. shame but i think his impact has been felt now, having him a second year wont increase attendances

Fury saved by the FFA

Probably spells the end for Fergie but the beginning of Fowler's coaching career.

Neither will be tehre next year.

Ferguson because he's not up to the task, and Fowler because the 'new' Fury can't afford him. His contract will be ended with numerous other staff/players as the 'new' Fury is a separate entity and has no obligation to take over old contracts. THey'll use this as a way to shed some deadweight from the roster.
