Finals: Mariners v tap water drinking junkies

Urena starting will be a blessing in disguise.

It is no secret that finals are very different to the regular season and history has shown that those teams who have experienced finals players have the edge. Players who have been there and experienced the pressure of the games.

Marco has been involved in huge matches and tournaments and my tip is that he will be immense.
Scored at a World Cup didn't he?

Flipside to that is Windust and Kuol. Then again maybe this will be the game that Muller finally shines with all his experience.

Well he can't play any worse. Hopefully we have a fully firing Urena for finals. I'd bring him on later in case of extra time. I love the young kids but are they ready to take penalties without bottling it (ala England at the Euro's).

Watch the scum game on replay and particularly the first half and Urena’s passes switching play. He did have a good game and I’m amazed on how people on here think strikers score at every opportunity they get. If you watch any game multiple chances are butchered all the time but some seem to think Mariners players are different. Cum Dingo has missed some sitters but people still sledge Urena for playing poorly. Unbelievable.

I don't think strikers have a strike rate of 100, that's ridiculous (he is not Kuol! :p). In game commentary I'm equally scathing of Cummings or anyone else who misses a sitter. What I get frustrated by is his recent elephant touch when in tight quarters. Also him butchering clear passes to put through players one-on-one with the keeper or easy 5 on 2 opportunities that you would expect an experienced player to achieve. I want the set em up, knock em in Urena who we haven't seen for a month or so now. I also want him in form as he can make a huge difference to us winning the title this season.

At times his pass selection and execution is poor from a percentage point of view. He's a quality player but recently his passing has been weak at times. He can still pull off some great passes but sometimes, more than should be the case, his passes are honking.

. to me its a bit like being a centre back - you could have a great game but one poor pass, missed tackle or f**k-up and that is what determines your fate

. Marco does a lot of good but what frustrates people is those moments when you expect his experience or class to show through it often doesn't. too often i see him over-running the ball - he is trying to keep close contact but the ball gets under him. but lately he has reverted to the little flicks that don't seem to ever find their mark - when he cut that out of his game earlier in the season he looked a lot better to me

. it is also a problem of setting high expectations ... if he doesn't play a perfect game (or as one may expect from someone who apparently scored at a world cup) people notice

. all that aside - how good is it that we can critique his performances? we must be doing alright if that is what we're discussing

Also he is a known danger and is more heavily marked out of the game these days but that is great news as we have weapons up front everywhere so when they focus on one the others get more space. To me he is a fantastic team player and this was displayed by his attitude when Moresche kept him on the bench, he didn’t sook.

I’m saying he is a world beater and the best in the league he just seems to get a lot of negative attention when he has contributed massively to the last two seasons.

Doors open at 2:30 pm $20 per head and it is first in best dressed for seating. My mate called them today after we figured out it wasn't possible to make the Adelaide trip :(
Are you saying the $20 pizza + beer is not optional or are you saying it's $20 just to get in the door before anything else? This venue think they're a nightclub in Sydney, they can jam that.

Exactly. Against Newcastle when we desperately needed an outlet and to control the ball he was trying flicks that were quality but kept getting turned over. Just wasn’t the time for it (but he can do it). When they come off it’s spectacular but sometimes the simple control and pass is needed. Unbelievable player who still makes a few mistakes but hey that’s why he’s in the A League and not somewhere else

People get very frustrated by Marco. I agree, pretty f**king oddly at times, while others it's easy to see why, mainly because he's not super clinical. Though you're right, he certainly hasn't been alone in that. But I also think he's a victim of his own success, he has so many involvements, where so many sides strikers routinely go absent, and makes so many great runs at real pace and gets in behind and or very close to one on ones so many times where people feel he/we should score. Then they get mad as all shit when we don't. But though it would obviously be better if his conversion rate was higher, and fair enough to think it could/should be, I'd hazard he does too, but they're missing how few strikers can and do create those moments consistently in games.

Bottom line, ask the players and coach if they think he can play and whether he has been massive for us this season. Chalk and cheese with a lot of the opinion on here. And off the park they all keep saying how great he is too. Even the Cum Dingo. A player who if anyone you think would have had a falling out with as a new gun striker coming in and not just rocking but completely flipping over the apple cart. Instead, trhey adore each other. It's really f**king classy and rare in the world game.

Honestly I don't think we have a player in the squad who's performing badly, let alone is worth rubbishing. Been a great season. And even players who nearly everyone thought would be weak like Roux, have been excellent.

Really, the fact Moresche can go out and Urena comes back in... man, that's a depth of quality in our side we haven't had in a long time, we should be thrilled over and counting our lucky stars.
