Mariners to host Fan Forum
Monday, 23 July 2012 3:30 PM

SUPPORTERS of the Central Coast Mariners are invited to attend the Club’s 2012 Fan Forum at Mingara Recreation Club on Monday 6 August.

Taking place between 6:30pm and 8:00pm in the Mingara Showroom, fans will have the opportunity to air their ideas and talk with Club Officials regarding recent developments the Mariners have made, as well as the outlook for the 2011/12 Hyundai A-League Premiers.

Central Coast Mariners General Manager of Football, Mr Lawrie McKinna, will MC the evening and light snacks and refreshments will be available to supporters throughout the night.

A panel consisting of Mariners Chairman Mr Peter Turnbull, Director Mr Bob Graham, Head Coach Mr Graham Arnold, and a senior team player yet to be confirmed will answer queries from fans eager to understand the practices and processes the Club is implementing to ensure it remains not only successful on the field, but an innovative and sustainable force off it.

Mr Turnbull today said he is looking forward to meet with the many Members and fans the Club hopes will attend the event.

“We have been looking for an opportunity to hold a Fan Forum for some time and want to use the evening to speak with supporters who have questions to ask us and ideas to share with us,” he said.

“As a Club the past 12 months have been highly successful. We won the Hyundai A-League Premiership as well as the National Youth League crown, and competed in our second AFC Champions League. In addition, we launched the Central Coast Mariners Academy in conjunction with Central Coast Football.

“We also enjoyed record Membership numbers, saw a bounce in our year-on-year A-League match attendances, and completed Stage One of the Central Coast Mariners Centre of Excellence. Our community initiatives, including our free MarinersACTIVE Schools Programs, again proved popular.

“But we need to ensure our supporters have the opportunity to meet with Club Officials at least annually so they can express their views to us one-on-one. We invite all interested fans to come along,” he concluded.

Central Coast Mariners 2012 Fan Forum
When: Monday 6 August, 2012
Time: 6:30pm – 8:00pm
Where: Mingara Showroom, Mingara Recreation Club

Away with work unfortunately.

For any who are of a mind, really appreciate any detailed synopsis of the night anyone can give. Club will likely offer up a glossy "wow what a great night - thanks everyone" article. But I'm very interested in the meat and potatoes of what's discussed.

Can't remember everything but:=

Lawrie MC

Panel of Turnbull, Graham, Arnold. Patrick and Hutch

GA said that all the older boys are leaders on and off the field. He is not in a hurry to make the Captain decision.

GA is looking to the young guys this year to step up. 8-9 players 22 or younger. Mikey (Wee-Mac) is a typical Mariners tale accourding to GA. Came here for an opportunity and now has gone to a World Cup and an Olympics.

Target of 5000 members on top of 3400 MarinerMate Ausgrid members

JALSC had led to an increase of about 40% from the FFA. The new media deal if it covers the salary cap will mean that the Mariners will be profitable from football operations from the following year.

The Russians have just signed another extension - though two local investors are waiting in the wings. It seemed like this was an either/or situation - not the Russians and local investors (just my take - may be wrong)

Aquatic centre to start soon after a couple of amendments to the DA. 6 lane 25metre pool plus a separate learn to swim pool. Room for a lot more expansion for more fields on Mariners land. That will come later. The promised federal money has been received. A deal for a 3,000 - 4,000 grandstand is being negotiated with the State govt and Wyong Council. A major medical group has signed on to operate the planned medical centre and that will be in the administration building.

Some complaint about the some players not taking long enough time to thank the fans. Hutch made valid points about occasions where the team is backing up quickly and having to do recovery. GA said he has taken it on board and the players will stay out longer except for media requirements.

New gear deal to be announced soon - with merchandise available before the season.

Patrick is keen to stay with the club (if the family agrees) after his playing career and PT confirmed that he is keen for that to happen he and Arnie had discussed how that could happen.

A fans trust had been discussed before and the board are happy to look at it again.

David Zdrilic did interviews with Lawrie and Arnie beforehand - will probably be on TWG next week along with a report on the fan forum.

. nice summary PJ

The Russians have just signed another extension - though two local investors are waiting in the wings. It seemed like this was an either/or situation - not the Russians and local investors (just my take - may be wrong)

. i found PTs response a little frustrating ... and didn't really clarify the situation. i got the feeling that the russians delayed (initially) our success then got some more high nett worth locals interested and they stumped up some cash. when the hotel operators came on board that made things a lot less stressful and the russian investment was not as imperative - of course the recent sale of players has nothing to do with the improved situation

. so although there is still a valid, signed agreement ... the russians don't seem as important nowadays and i wonder who is actually holding up any cash commitment

. of course that is just my read on his comments

Aquatic centre to start soon after a couple of amendments to the DA. 6 lane 25metre pool plus a separate learn to swim pool.

. i didn't think there was going to be a 'separate' learn to swim pool

Room for a lot more expansion for more fields on Mariners land.

. this is where it got really confusing for me with bob graham shooting off on a tangent talking up how great wyong council is and what they have done and may do. i wasn't too sure when he was talking about the coe and when he was just tallking about other council stuff - his mention of rugby 7s and similar things was probably to the wrong audience.

. i don't know the guy and understand he is campaigning at the moment ... but maybe he could have toned it down for the night

A fans trust had been discussed before and the board are happy to look at it again.

. i'd be interested to know how this will work. from body language i didn't think PT was all that keen ... and i think they would have show a lot more clarity on the current ownership structure before it could progress too far

. hopefully the relatively small crowd doesn't scare them off doing more of this thing - although it must be said i think both sides were feeling their way

I think Peter Turnbull said that there was room for 6 more fields on 'Mariners' land that will probably be expanded at a later date. Then there was talk of more council land near Lake Rd.

As far as the Russians are concerned the talk from MarinerMick was that the Federal Govt stopped the Russian involvement because it was to part-own a community asset that the Government had paid for. If that is the case then maybe the deal needs to be restructure so that their ownership does not include those community assets (the pool and medical centre I think were identified earlier as comminity assets). As you said - both sides were feeling their way and I don't think anyone wanted to delve too deeply early on in case the whole evening went south and everyone clammed up. If there is another one maybe people will be a bit more animated.

There was also a point from the floor that the Yellow Army chants were getting a little too complicated for the rest of the bays to participate.

There was comment\question about frustration at the drop in attendance last year, especially around finals time. The point was made that attendance actually increased slightly by 1,000 from the previous year. Point was made that we are the best supported Club per-capita in the A-League.
