Could be worse, we could be Sydney

I doubt, considering they've signed Filan, that they'll sign up Bozza.

Filan is their goalkeeper coach, but was on bench as cover on the weekend.

He's the official injury replacement for Bolton atm, and as Glory found out with Jeff Bright, you can't break that agreement as the PFA renders that illegal, in protection of the player.

I know champ

What I mean is that Filan is cover for the injured Bolton NOW, but, another injury to either Bolton or Ivan in the future could pave the way for Bosnich to sign.

It would not suprise me if Sydney waste more money to try and buy more fans TBH

Let's face it. With the Mariners he had a lot more room to move PLUS he had decent supply.

At the moment, Sydney FC have no wingers whatsoever, and from what i saw, play their football a lot thru the middle of the park when it gets towards the pointy end of the pitch... instead of going wide and letting Aloisi assert some of that aerial superiority.

and another boardroom drama at "f**ked up franchise FC"

Sydney could lose roubles
Michael Cockerill and Sebastian Hassett
SMH October 24, 2008

SYDNEY FC's most significant minority shareholder, Russian millionaire David Traktovenko, remains committed to the club for the short term, but for how much longer remains to be seen.

Traktovenko, a banker who until two years ago was chairman of Russian high flyers Zenit St Petersburg, is believed to hold a 22 per cent stake in Sydney FC as the club embarks on fresh round of capital-raising from its shareholders to meet running costs. The Lowy family already has the majority share, and with minor shareholders such as Hollywood actor Anthony La Paglia diluting their stakes in recent years, Traktovenko is the only investor effectively standing between the Lowy family and a wholesale takeover of the club.

Suggestions have circulated in recent months that Traktovenko - who lives in St Petersburg but owns a waterfront mansion in Mosman so he can visit his daughter several times a year - has become increasingly frustrated with his lack of influence in club policy. Traktovenko split a $US36 million payout when he sold Zenit to oil and gas company Gazprom in 2006, and Sydney FC are his only football-related investment. He has previously expressed interest in taking a controlling stake in the club.

Traktovenko's investment is represented on the board by his son-in-law, Scott Barlow, who yesterday denied he was getting ready to sell out, or that he might shift his money to a proposed western Sydney franchise, which could join the A-League as early as 2010. Barlow did add, however, he wasn't sure what the long-term future might hold.

"Our view at the moment is that we've been with Sydney FC from day one, we've enjoyed it, we continue to enjoy it, and we're keen to stay involved. But I can't talk too much into the future. David will be out here next month, he'll be at a couple of games, and I'm sure he'll be meeting with Frank [Lowy].

"The focus at the moment is to bring the club to break-even as soon as possible. We're in better shape now than we have been, there's more stability than there has been in the past. Obviously, from a financial point of view, football is not the best investment, but all the [A-League] owners at the moment are experiencing that .

"As for the second [western] Sydney franchise, we hear the same rumours as everyone else, about who's trying to get together a consortium. But as I said, our view at the moment is we're staying with Sydney FC." (er not all mate, small club? up the road? play in yellow?)

Have Sydney FC really learned? They have to be one of the most short-sighted, short-termist club in football.

It all started in V1 when they signed up has-beens/never-do-wells on obscene long-term contracts, and rode their luck to win the title in their first season. Some of the players were good (Corica) but others were utter rubbish (Talay, Zdrilic). Kosmina did well to extract everything from that lot last season (in what was, admitedly, a poor league last season), but with the changes he's made the onus is on the side to deliver. Sure, they're in the top 3, but the fact Aloisi isn't delivering leaves questions being asked.

Furthermore, people will ask questions if "returning Socceroos" are always going to perform in this league. Because some of them haven't set the world alight :-\

Agostino comes to mind, good player if he's ever fit, but not worth the marquee status he has at Adelaide United since he's been crocked and surely the club should've known he's been crocked for years.

Good God, it looked like Aloisi TRIED to miss for us last night.

He still done shit all on the pitch for us, but that was a "poachers" goal so to say.

And to  think that Aloisi gets a pay packet that is "head and shoulders" above the rest.

If Aloi$i is paid $1m per season, by my calculations that goal cost Sydney a cool $428,571. Mwah ha ha ha ha.

anyone wanna have a stab at guessing how long he has left? My bet is they wont make the finals, spelling the end...anyone think he'll go before the finals series?

I had Sydney FC down as a top 3 side this season, am I going to have to change my prediction? Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United look fairly certain to claim the top 2 spots by default.

Mariners will have to pounce while performances like this happen, so will the Roar. Amazingly, if Perth and/or Wellington hit good runs of form they might have half a chance at the expense... :piralaugh:

Didn't get to see this game vs Wellington on Foxtel, but the link provided above tells that the Cove boys are mightily touchy towards Kosmina and his coaching. Credit to Wellington, who have seemed to have worked out a few teams this year (us included dammit).

Did Kossie really have a go back at Hill in the post match interview? And at Herbert too?

If that's the case, he really needs to look at what the problem is at Sydney FC - it sounds like HIM!

They have the players who have performed in the past. So it's tactics and players form at present - and that's the manager's role.

The quote from the Cove forum about whether Kossie has turned into some sort of half- Butcher, half- Culina monstrosity is funny..... But what are they going to do, they've backed Kossie, given him a salary cap full of players who's reputation preceded them and they have sneaked some victories, but their overall form hasn't been convincing.

Although, to be fair, they played a hard match against us last week (and lost the moral victory there!), Wellington were coming off a loss to Perth  -so Herbert would have had them kicked up the arse all week, and really, I don't think Sydney should be panicking just yet, they are in the top 4 and need to string some results coming into the second half of the season - that's all. They usually perform well in Finals, so if they can make it to the Finals, they have a chance. Premiership - no, Championship - maybe.

Was also funny to read on that forum that they were bagging out Busch and Golec. A few weeks ago these younger players saved their arses with a great performance in CB positions against Victory and now the Cove boys reckon they're shite. Would hate to be a player playing for Sydney - one minute you're a cult hero, then next a disgrace.

Maybe he has photos like Arnold did ;)

honestly think he will be gone if this keeps up given Sack me FC past history on managers.
