Back on before 1st game or after?

Hey Al

I was meant to be on holidays this week and then back next week to do a show.
However I got caught up in the Sydney Airport F*ck Up yesterday so I'm here this week and I will unfortunately be away next week, missing round 1 Jets at home entirely.

We will record a show this afternoon/tonight and possibly put it up late this week, early next week.

Jimmy.

Bring on wacking day. The snake must not score at all costs

Alan, have you ever played in a Defensive 'back x3' at any of your previous clubs ?

- with the abundance of midfield talent that we have this year in Brama, Hiairej, DDS & Junior, coupled with the speedier players out wide
...... do you think the Mariners could play that formation ??

From your experience with Okon so far, would Paolo be the type of coach to consider such a change in formation OR is he very set in his philosophy of only being a 'straight back 4'

Cheers Jimmy ;)

Thank f**k for that. Rowdy egging on Paul to play with a back three is worse than me doing the same to Tony over a 442 with The Snake and Heff 2.0 up front.

Seriously, we have an abundance of both midfield talent + speed out-wide that would suit playing with a back 3.

The options for various positions are quite diverse.

Would you not like to see both DDS & Junior on the pitch at the same time ?
.... those silky skills on ball, playing in tandem alongside each other ???
- A back 3 is the only formation that could facillitate that.

Back 3:
---------- Golec ---------- Baro --------------- Rose

----------- Brama ------- (DM) ------- Hiriaj

-- RWB --- DDS -- (AM) -- Jnr/Hoole ---- LWB

--------------------------- Asdrúbal (Strkr)

All options seeded left to right (imo)
Back 3 options:
Rowles, Jnr, Ashcroft, McGing

DM options:
Jnr, Mcging, Ashcroft, Berry

AM options:
Hoole, Powell -- late subs/Appiah, Pain, Bingham, Buhagiar

Striker options:
Bingham, Hoole, Buhagiar, Powell

The WB's are primarily attack minded players who drop to help cover in defense but isn't their main focus, as you have one of the DM's drop 'first' to make & complete your 'back 4'

If Matthew Leckie or Robbie Kruse can be considered for the position of a WB
....... THEN SO CAN ANY of these CCM players;

*An engine ....player must have an engine to get up and down their flank.
RWB options:
Appiah, Roux, Buhagiar, Hoole, Powell

LWB options:
Pain, Rose, Hoole, Bingham, Powell

I actually think both Josh Rose and Storm Roux would thrive as opposing sided WB's, substitute them at 55-65 min mark with any of the other options, or vice versa bring either of them on at around that stage of a game.

The other sub being either one of the AM's or the Striker, if goals/&/or shake-up needed.

I would hate us to play with a back 3!! Only Baro is good enough out of that back 3. You need 3 excellent defenders to play that system.

Switching to a back 3 is what killed Australia in the WC qualifiers when we were crusiing.

It wasn't 'the switch', it was Ange picking the wrong player's
..... who were either out of form/NOT playing
..... or not suited to the system

.... sometimes both !

Aussies classic example
Only one strong CB in Sainsbury and we only have Baro. You need 3, 2 minimum.

We playing a back four now and clean sheets now becoming regular. We won't change. Especially now season starts and haven't given it a trial.

Look at roar. Hammered first couple of games trying it.

Would like it as an option though if the game called for it

Of course Okon wouldnt bring it in, now or during the season.

& this is certainly NOT a "I think he should do it now'
....
all purely hypothetical 'what if' punter's banter kind of stuff.

Great work on the banner guys. Just a shame the team let everyone down.

Was going to mention the band in game thread but thought I'd put it in here for all the talk.

What did people think of the bands position. I think it was a good spot.

The reason i put it in here is you guys would have been making to much noise to realise but the band actually did jack shit during the game. For all the talk about them not listening and taking over it was them who were lost without you.

Might have been first 20/30mins they didn't make a peep. Just sat there. I laughed it's your gig and your not playing and don't tell me they are watching the game. Eventually they got bored and went for a walk but they really were a non factor. I was a couple of bays away and only noticed them for maybe 10mins out of the whole day.

They also finally had Mariners shirts on. I'm sure it was old stuff in the store room.

I thought the amount they did was perfect but I wonder how long they handle being irrelevant.

Such a shame if they played like Saturday with you guys it could have been great. Oh well.

Will be interesting to see if they ramp it up next game or get bored and start not showing up

Hey Al.

We will discuss it on tomorrow's show.
It's the old band leader back, different from the one we had troubles with.

For f**k sake we are worse than a state league side defensively with 4 at the back.....are we going to improve with 3???
