ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Okon was a half decent striker away from doing something with our rabble. I know there’s plenty of animosity towards him here but he wasn’t far off being a decent appointment.

Actually he was three defenders, one keeper and a ball playing holding centre midfielder away from success, all of which we didn’t have the money for.

His insistence that we play out from the back slowly, with players who weren’t technically up to this style of play, was the reason we leaked so many goals. Teams that pressed us hammered us. It was a totally dogmatic and unpractical way playing style.

This is why I rate Okon as our worst coach because he was the one that had the best football pedigree, and the biggest football brain, yet his stubbornness and lack of tactical flexibility clouds his ability to be an incredible football coach.

We had a lot of tight low scoring results in 17-18, having a more clinical striker could have turned a few of those into more points and that would have had us at least close to finals. But we didn’t and as you say we didn’t have the cash either.

From what I heard he and Jolic had very low interpersonal skills, so you can be as tactically astute as you like but if you can’t communicate effectively and encourage buy in from your playing group, the reality is that you won’t get very far.

We lost to the scum 5-1 in our opening game of that season in front of the biggest crowd of the season at 12,000. Lost the last game of the season to the scum 8-2, I couldn't wait to see the back of him, tedious, boring tactics that didn't work and no clue how to change them.

Our squad actually wasn't that bad that season although having a shithouse keeper certainly didn't help.

To be fair, I don’t think Okon was coach for the Jets calamity, didn’t he quit a few games before that clusterf@ck of a ‘contest’…
