ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Funny how we perceive things, I got the feeling “the Dick was pushed” by MC is BS. I also didn’t get the whole MC hatred through his careful words. I guess it comes down to what you want to hear.
I heard that he was taken by surprise but business is business and he cant force Dick to do anything. The $7m is more of Dicks odd accounting. Thats probably the total expenditure of the club over 18 months. Implies we had no income

It's complete bullshit and spin, I'd love to see the books opened, there's no way with the players we sold over those 2 years.

Corporate speak can make your agenda seem real.

I spent x. But what about revenues or reimbursement's.

Net loss or profit can also be misleading if things like depreciation throw off the results.

You can make a profit but spend more on capital items and therefore have a net cash flow of a loss even though you have a net profit.

Just depends what you are trying to sell.

But we all know there is no money in it and it’s what are you prepared to spend.

Dick did buy some things and give out some jobs and payrises. So he no doubt lost money it’s just how much did he loose of his own money.

At the end of the day it was a successful two years and we are back to where we were before.

I assume that the landscape has changed but I recall at one point there were 2 companies - one that was the football club and one that was the rest - coe etc.

My recollection was that it skewed the lines because the players contracts were not signed with the FC and when they weren't paying wages and super it all got very messy.

I think the wage an super problems were prior to MC stewardship. But there are separate companies. I suspect that RP was funding th football club and doing some minor capital improvements.

It sounded like that MC controls the other company that controls the land and built the office block. Unfortunately a lot of income producing assets needed to be sold to pay off debt.

Now, hopefully with a friendlier council
and more investors the site will be further developed to generate alternate income streams hu

Its a great question...

As a league and in many ways us as a club IMO lack marketing skills...

Only LM had marketing skills and he was the coach.. Shaun was great in a crisis .... but being honest given the season we had last year when should have been 10+ for most of the year....

Given our last two seasons and the overall respect for the coach our crowds have been on the whole woeful...

Nothing to do with marketing it’s just the people of the central coast. As someone aptly puts it the people of the coast only turn up to events and a membership is not an event.

It’s not just coast that act like that it’s all sports in Sydney and i hazzard a guess all of Aus.

If you simply it to just A League football look at the crowds for every grand final vs that clubs season there is definitely a event desire to it.

The underdog thing only lasts for so long to and sometimes success gets boring too. A couple of years of winning are not as exciting as winning for the first time in a while

The other thing about the coast is that it is a commuter town with a large proportion of families bringing young kids. Saturday night and NYE are our best slots.

Last season (as champions) we had

1 NYE game
2 sat night games
2 sat afternoon games
5 Sunday afternoon games
3 week night games - 1 at 5:30pm

So
23% of our games were at favourable slots
15% of our games were at ok spots (assuming not blazing sunshine for the eastern stand)
38% of our games were at poor spots
23% of our games were in abysmal slots

This season as treble winners

1 NYE game
1 sat night game
3 sat afternoon games
3 sun afternoon games
1 sun night game
4 week night games

15% of our games are in favourable slots
23% of our games are in ok spots (assuming not blazing sunshine for the eastern stand)
30% of our games are in poor spots
30% of our games are in abysmal slots

How do you market to follow a successful team when the fans have already spoken and shown when they will turn up but we get very few games that match up with their preferences.

Just one other thing that doesnt show in the stats provided PJ is the scheduling of games.eg we’ve just had our largest crowd of the season NYE then go into a 5 game away streak.Thats madness! How many will still be interested when we eventually get a home game?

The careful choices of words, the tone and the tactical pauses from MC in the podcast actually say alot more than I realized.

Worth a listen again if anyone still has questions about the legacy Dick Peel has left.
100% - brilliant word choices and anyone who speaks corporate can translate. MC went up in my estimation as the English can still use words so well

It's definitely a Sydney and Brisbane thing - Brisbane is notorious for "which team is the show", where it spikes if a team does well and plummets otherwise. Sydney is similar, but bigger so statisically there's a few more that will show up each week.

Melbourne is much more of a membership-based ride or die attitude, but that just gives them a solid enough floor just with get massive spikes if a given team is doing well.

Coasties are very family and very elderly based.

The family based is the long term future as we need the football kids to convert a percentage into their adulthood.

However as mentioned many times is it ‘worth’ dragging the family out if it’s not a significant event.
* Does the game day have appeal for the wife/partner who may be the decision maker.
* Does the game day have enough to keep the kids interested.
* Does the game day have something for the the single guys & girls that may have the disposal income.

When looking at increasing crowds a winning team is obviously not the formula for the Coast.

If we do want to increase the casual number to get from 6k to 10k I believe it all comes down to game day and the ‘experience’ or as mentioned is the Mariners game the best option on the day for an ‘event’!

If you chucked all the eggs in one basket the perfect tag line is:

——— Every game, Grand Final Feeling ———

* Club owned cold spark machines
* T-shirt give aways (Cannon, slingshot)
* Adult cheerleaders
* Dane drive markets, free for stall holders to encourage 20/30/40 market stalls
* Food trucks & kids games on Dane drive where everyone can see so it looks like a festival every game.
All low cost game day things that can be done with only a little council and stadium co-operation on their behalf.

Other Initiatives:
Big one in today’s society is the subscription based membership.
$10 a week for 4/5 months, direct debit setup and the customer pays the merchant fees so not at clubs expense.
(2 failed payments and membership card deactivates, etc)

Still can't believe we weren't pushing memberships on the night. Should have had QR codes on display, and on the screen before the game or at half time.

Heck, even just "scan this code to be notified when you can sign up " would have been something.

Massive missed opportunity
