Player Ratings:
Danny Vukovic: 7, Did well and would have had a clean sheet if not for Cadete's worldie.

Storm Roux: 8, What a game from Storm, has found his form from before his horrific injury and a hell of an assist too.

Brian Kaltak: 8, Was a brick wall at the back and made the second goal happen through sheer force of will. Apart from a couple loose passes he was nearly perfect, getting better every week.

Nectar Triantis: 6, Couple of overly ambitious passes but was defensive sound.

Jacob Farrell: 6, Did well defensively but looks extremely out of confidence when faced with taking a player on. We're missing his fearless, marauding runs from last season.

Harry Steele 6.5: The odd wayward pass but did a great job screening the back four and breaking up play. Equally impressive was doing it after 90 mins on Tuesday.

Josh Nisbet 8.5: Our midfield maestro was the heartbeat of the side and dominated Victory's midfield the whole game. Unlucky not to have a penalty.

Garang Kuol: 7: Had a quieter night then usual but still produced flashes of magic, including some great lead up play for the first goal.

Beni Nkololo: 5.5: Not Beni's best game and struggled to have much of an impact. Desperately needed some help from Farrell to take awat skme defensive pressure.

Marco Tùlio: 7, Looked good on the ball and delivered a terrific corner for Kaltak to head to Cummings for the second, as well as some great set piece delivery all night. Not quite as imperious as other games but was still a danger whenever on the ball. Put some great defensive work in too.

Jason Cummings: 9.5: Fantastic performance from the Cumdingo and unlucky to not have at least one more. Was a constant threat to the Victory goal. Would be ahead of Jamie Maclaren in the golden boot had all his VAR goals this season counted.

Subs:
Dan Hall: 6.5: Did well to shore up the backline with fresh legs when he came on in the 67th minute. Competently repelled Victory's efforts.

Michael Ruhs: 7: Was very energetic and provided exactly what we needed off the bench. Seems to be getting better and better under Monty.

Sam Silvera 6: Not his best appearance since returning to the club and copped a very undeserved yellow. Hopefully he recaptures his early season form in the new year.

Sasha Kuzevski N/A: Not on long enough.

Nick Montgomery: 8: Out coached a side with easily double our financial resources. All subs were made at the right time and had a good impact, especially Ruhs. Some of the crossed Victory were able to whip in were worrying, and we were lucky not to go 1 down early on. But overall a quality coaching performance from Monty.

My MoM thoughts:
3: Cummings
2: Nisbet
1: Kaltak

Popa is such a knob, man under pressure. We should have had at least 3 goals maybe 4 but he feels they were the better team. Stood outside the technical area most of the game yet Monty gets a yellow.
Bahahahaha the interviewer, to “do you think we created enough chances”… .. “I think.. not really.” ????? GOLD!
What an idiot Popa is. No you didn’t play well enough to win mate because you got the ball in the back of the net once to our three. Even with one of those disallowed.
Slink off home with your wet tail between your legs. Happy New Years ?

100% agree on your MOM points. Would struggle to seperate Cumdingo and Niz.

So happy for the win but angry about the officiating. Only an APL run comp would show favourites to a club that has brought the darkest moment in its short history. So hard to enjoy this league. Pretty sure it was KGJ in VAR. That bloke seriously needs to be sacked.
I couldn't go to the game tonight but I watched it on TV. I thought the ref + Var actually got it right, much to my dismay but the calls were accurate

It was a great night.

Got to have a chat with the best-ever Mariner Andre G who has now moved back to the Coast. I told him you will appreciate the Coast again after living in Newcastle which he thought was hilarious but in total agreeance.....I wasn't joking Gumps lol.

Atmosphere was brilliant. Bay 16 was terrific.

Fireworks were good....thanks Michael Dovey.

Enjoyed a top feed at @Baker St pre-game.

Impressed with us tonight

My thoughts.....

Danny V is back in form. Possibly could have saved that shot.
Storm is still playing well.....even defensively but apart from the goal he was impressive.
Kaltek had a strange game with his heavy touch causing problems but when its backs to the wall he is just the man you want.
Nizzy was superb again.
Impressed with Steele again...he was ordinary against City but has put in massive and impressive shifts in 2 of his last 3 games. I'm definately warming to this lad.
Cummings....worked hard and looks confident and full of goals.
Tulio is a joy to watch.

Ruhs and Sammy as so good off the bench....a nightmare for tired defenders.

MOM.

3pts Nizz
2pts Cumdog
1pt Storm

Both VAR calls were correct
It wasn’t just the VAR calls it was like most games we play where the free kicks in the last 20 odd minutes go against us. Brillante pushing Beni off the ball the Silvera YC just to name a few. The Pen I think is tough, Ref calls it straight away so it needed to be a clear and obvious error to overturn the decision. It wasn’t in my opinion. The offside is more a frustration as we know they do not have the cameras or technology to judge such a close call unlike the WC which did.

The issue I have is the age old point, Clear and Obvious when overturning, the first a bees dick couldnt seperate the lines, the second, ill conceed on keeper did getting a touch on ball, so probably shouldn't have been a pen, but Ive seen them given.

Its just seems the clear and obvious point is discretionary and subjective.

To me it was a clear and obvious error. Nisbet kicked the ball, Acton got to the challenge first and parried the ball in front of him. Nisbet came last over the top.
