Graham Arnold's pleas for Olympic-age Australian players to receive more game time could be answered by a hybrid youth competition featuring A-League under-23 teams and aspirants for a national second division.

Friday night's Y-League grand final between Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory could be the last in its current guise, with A-League clubs ready to progressively expand it into a full home-and-away season and lift the age cut-off for players from 21 to 23, sources have told the Herald.
This is very good news

Yeah that would be great. Why are the NPL clubs so adamant about no HAL clubs in there?

Considering the use of the A league clubs branding and more linear pathway for players, seems to make a lot of sense.

Wasn't sure where to put this but this counts as Australian football. Did anyone just witness that Ange masterclass as the Marinos completely smashed the smurfs? What an amazing performance. Ange has got them playing as good a football that l have seen from an Asian side in the ACL. They are ridiculously well drilled. Scintillating in attack, direct with pace and tough to handle. Brilliant on the counter, dominate possession and when it is lost they regain shape so fast and give the opposition no time and space. Defence is a high line that is solid and gave no chance for Sydney to break quickly. The sort of performance that shows how much the A-League is behind the J-League. Now l see why Yokohama won the league last year and will go a long way to win it again this season.

Watched the match replay this morning. I gather they'll win the AFC CL, they're just so much better overall than any A-league team.

Ange has a world-class system with Yokohama, and anyone who denies that doesn't know football.

Calling a win might be premature but I’d expect a decent run. The system is vulnerable to leaking goals if it goes wrong, if you look at their results there aren’t many 1-0 games either for or against or low scoring draws.

Stead, who worked in tandem with Ange Postecoglou during the Yokohama F.Marinos kingpin’s trophy-laden reign at Brisbane Roar, was cut earlier this week, the latest head to roll in an off-field purge at the Bulls.

With the newcomers in turmoil before a ball has even been kicked, there are also question marks over how closely the remaining management structure at the Campbelltown-based club resembles that of the South West Sydney bid, which had little hope of winning a license prior to being corralled by the FFA into an amalgamation with billionaire Lang Walker’s rival Macarthur-based bid.

Coming to Optus Sport soon. Another Ben Coonan venture

The 13-part series and feature-length special, features over one-hundred interviews with prominent Australians and legends of the game, including with two of Australia's FIFA World Cup coaches, Ange Postecoglou and Rale Rasic, along with coaching great Frank Arok.

Legendary Socceroos John Aloisi, Adrian Alston, Mark Bresciano, Milan Ivanovic, Zeljko Kalac, Tony Popovic, Ray Richards, Mark Schwarzer, Josip Skoko and Sasa Ognenovski share their experiences of the unique culture of Australia’s European migrant communities.

Popular media personalities such as Santo Cilauro, George Donikian and Nick Giannopoulos also tell of how football shaped their own lives.

“Australian football has been woven with European thread, and ‘Football Belongs’ captures the culture and passion of the people for whom football was the foundation of their second home,” Optus’ Director of Sport Richard Bayliss said.

“The series and long-form special will highlight just how integral European culture is to our sporting landscape, and what it has contributed to our nation as a whole.”

For the first feature, which will premiere on Wednesday March 11, Optus Sport visited NPL club Preston Lions to profile the Macedonian football community.

Each Wednesday thereafter will be a new community profiled; including Albania, Croatia, England, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Serbia and Turkey. The series will culminate with a feature length special on all communities.

They invite others to play as guests. We aren’t the first and won’t be the last. It’s actually a good chance to play against strong full strength teams wouldnt normally meet outside of the World Cup.

I hadn’t heard that one but there was some concern that they wouldn’t be able to get their best squad released by their clubs with the cup qualifiers a few days before. Not to mention the logistics of both so it’s probably the same issue just framed differently. With those qualifiers likely to be delayed due to corona virus our chances of getting those players to the tournament improves.

Unless Adelaide manage a big turn around they’re on track to give our score last week a decent crack

Think was also concern asian qualifying might have been just after so asking the main guys to do 4 weeks international’s was also considered as unlikely and not what there clubs would want. Hence the u23’s

It’s also not an official international window so clubs don’t have to release players. Arnie was trying to see who would be available and that they may have to use some 23’s if required.

Socceroos’ March and June qualifiers postponed
Football Federation Australia (FFA) received confirmation from AFC and FIFA overnight that forthcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ and AFC Asian Cup China 2023™ – Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 2 fixtures have been postponed.

The Socceroos were scheduled to play Kuwait (home) and Nepal (away) this month, as well as Chinese Taipei (home) and Jordan (home) in June, however due to the COVID-19 situation globally, numerous qualification fixtures across the Asian Football Confederation will be rescheduled.

Matches originally scheduled to take place in March and June 2020 have been postponed to dates to be advised by AFC and FIFA in due course.

National teams may still play matches in March or June 2020 upon mutual agreement, provided the safety and health concerns of all individuals involved meet the required standards, subject to prior approval by FIFA and AFC.

However, given FFA’s intent to put the health and welfare of all players, coaches, staff, and fans first, FFA will not to pursue qualification matches in March or June 2020, and will instead consider possible alternate activity options for the Socceroos in the respective windows over the coming days and weeks.

FFA is working with the Western Australian Government, Tourism WA, and HBF Park regarding the rescheduling of the Kuwait fixture, to ensure that the match is played in Perth later this year.

FFA hopes to be able to communicate the revised match date and kick-off time for the Socceroos’ fixture against Kuwait – previously scheduled for Thursday, 26 March 2020 – soon.

Fans who had already purchased tickets to the Kuwait match in Perth will be contacted in the coming days with further information.

VAR strikes again
It's the right decision. Clearly blocking the keeper's view - AR should have signalled for that. However, SFC should've had that pen.
I'm not surprised Beath got this game, but it just proves it's still a boys club rather than being on merit. That game he did of ours should have been enough to put him out of the running given how many significant, match-changing errors he made (6 or 7....conservatively...penalty/red card decisions)

I think Wales has gone backwards since leaving us? He really doesn’t have any end product. Looks flashy when he gets a few touches and runs, but he doesn’t have any depth to his game.

yeah looks like it. And inexcusable for him to get caught out offside in front of Redmayne like that.
