I didn’t see the game, but read that on balance Ecuador dominated the game even though we had more possession. Basically nearly all the attack bar a late charge was theirs. Had no shots on target first half etc... Agree with that BA?

High hopes for this team but worried now that the same over prescriptive syllabus issues that have plagued Aus football may be continuing. People had big wraps on this generation, but as they start getting older and more well drilled are the same issues arising...?

Thoughts from anyone who saw the game?

Maclaren out with a hamstring tear for 4-6 weeks. Terrible for City, not so bad for Nix, us, Roar and WSW in the next few weeks.

Yeah he scored two crackers yesterday. You do wonder where the goals will come from for the next month. Wales wasn’t having his best passing game yesterday as well. They showed WU doesn’t handle fast play well with all their old boys.

I think Noone will be good for them but yeah it’s a huge loss. If Najjarine can find some confidence they might be ok otherwise Wales will need to be a lot more clinical.

WU did better than I expected with pace but still not their strong point. We should give them some trouble through the middle.

Only tuned in with 15mins to go so can’t really comment.

Twitter was talking about it and caught my attention and tuned in.

They were saying we had very little attacking opportunities in the we played well except the front third mould.

The bit I watched was us going all out at the end and neutral commentary said why didn’t they play like this earlier and another comment was not having a quality striker was the difference between the teams

I was more letting people know it was on as i had no idea

The FFA want(ed) to ban goalkeepers as visa players.

The depth of Australia's goalkeeping stocks has plummeted to such a low base that A-League clubs have been asked by Football Federation Australia not to sign any foreign goalkeepers.

A country that was once spoilt for choice of goalkeepers is now bracing itself for a future crisis between the posts with FFA's national teams department fearing they could be without any alternatives to incumbent Mat Ryan and having identified even fewer prospects to eventually replace him.

There’s plenty of Australian keepers in the league, if they aren’t hitting the standard needed then maybe there’s an issue they need to address. By their logic they should have banned foreign strikers.

I would have thought that it would be John Crawley's job. Surely he can't be that busy now he works for the national team.
No mention of Glover in that article.

They do mention none under 23 playing regular senior football but they held us at 10 teams and fought expansion to focus on their power struggle so its their own doing to an extent. Not to mention how good can the younger talent be if we persisted with Kennedy? A second division and/or expanded NYL will give more minutes and help development. They can't expect the A league clubs alone to shoulder that burden in a critical position.
I thought the whole article was way too dismissive of Thomas and Izzo who definitely have potential and the possibility of 10 years more to play. Keepers have decent longevity and can play on for us longer than outfield players if needed.

I quite like Thomas. I'm surprised he is still in Melbourne. I thought he would have moved overseas by now.

It looked like they were gearing up to sell him at one point there but it might have fallen over. Especially after Acton got injured and took that option off the table.

There are plenty about but not at the standard there once was.

I believe our keeping stocks are the victim of early specialisation in football. Our football kids are now no longer playing cricket, AFL, league, basketball and touch, like we used to.

These are all sports conducive to developing not only all round keepers but all round athletes.

Covic, Maty, Danny, Theo, Eugene, Langerak even Bolton. Those were keepers that you would consider for the Socceroos. At one stage Eugene couldn't get a starting spot.

No-one stands out currently that looks to be of that standard. Thomas, Birighitti and Izzo are probably the closest and Izzo is still only 24 so could step up.

Macarthur FC are yet to kick a ball but are already boasting the most lucrative club sponsorship agreement in A-League history.

The Bulls should enter the A-League in October next year without many cash flow problems having secured a major front of short sponsor, which club sources have told the Herald is worth $3.5 million in cash over the next three years.
