Many congratulations to England on their 2-1 win. No excuses, they deserved to win. Well done.

Yes, this hurts like hell.

Where to for Australia from here?

Lets go from 1-11:

Watson - will get more chances at the top of the order. Solid.
Katich - fair. Will stay, he has been a rock for two years, and he is a better bat over here
Ponting - Will hand over to Clarke very soon. Will stay for a while. WILL NOT BE in England next time
Clarke - Getting better each match. (c) beckons
Hussey - saved his spot with 121 this morning. Under pressure. Michael Klinger, Callum Ferguson, Shaun Marsh, Phil Jaques, and Moises Henriques will all be watching with interest
North - Great find.
Haddin - now under immense pressure from Tim Paine & Graham Manou. Keeping is worse than thought
Johnson - needs constant work. Can be lethal
Siddle - solid. Has to pitch it up on a constant basis
Hilfenhaus - terrific. he and North are the finds of the tour
Clark - 18 months left in his career. Need a big summer
Hauritz - honestly, better than thought. Tries very hard.

Hughes need another summer getting PEPPERED by short stuff. Tasmania's Jason Krejza should be given a decent go, he can seriously bowl. Look for John Holland, Aaron Heal, Stephen Smith, AND ESPECIALLY Doug Bollinger to be monitored.

For a left-field choice, Waratah-Mayfield tearaway Burt Cockley bowls some serious heat and may be looked at.

And to those persons who are highly critical of this game (that being Test Cricket), I will make a pre-emptive strike. Consider this:

This country has 3 National Games (will be 4, with the inclusion of Football during the next decade); they are Netball, Australian Rules & Cricket.

Say what you like about Test Cricket, doesn't matter, it is still fascinating, ever-changing, meaningful, immensely difficult and an honour to be at or even watch.

To those who abuse the game on here, whilst you are perfectly entitled to your opinion, and I say this in all sincerity and without humour, you simply have NO IDEA!!

Auburn, agree with most of your comments, although I think Calum Ferguson is more suited to the one-dayer form atm. If he fares well in the shield games, it won't hurt his chances.

I was surprised that Bollinger didn't make the cut tbh. I quite like him as a bowler, but then again, I for one didn't see Johnson's brain snap poor form coming.

Mr Cricket ... reserving my judgement on him until I see him play in the test series over here. His form is worrying although he pulled one out of the bag this test.

On the money, i think, re North. He's shown to be so consistent and has the right mentality. Looking forward to see how he goes over here in Aus.

Kattich ... yes.

Watson ... yes ... performed very well as opener.

And agree that it may be Moises Henriques' time. He is an exciting prospect.

Krejza - I hope he gets a go, he can be very effective at times.

And , Punter will have his swansong this summer ... hoping that it will be brilliant.

2/3rds right actually hasbeen!

The result was correct.Ponting chucked a wobbily after the first test.....just wasn't about a pissed spectator... ;)

You are right Arab ... Punter didn't have a good series, and it flowed down from there.

A great series win for England, and I'm now looking forward to get back to a more realistic sleep pattern!

There were some big swings in momentum throughout all the tests and whilst the personal stats indicate that Australia should have won, England pipped the number of critical session won. It was good to see that Ponting got a good reception from the crowd when he came out for his last innings on an Ashes tour.

Interesting to see that Australia fall from 1 to 4 in the ICC rankings following the series but are still above England, may be that will change after we over here in 2010/11!

I figure it to be 428 more sleeps until the next ashes test. ... and "yes" about the lousy sleep patterns. Just lucky I'm on extended leave so not on work hours.

Australia didn't win the sessions they needed to win, and England did. Everything points to a very exciting next ashes series ...
