Durante to Western United.
Jeez Rudan really is the ultimate snake. Assuming they wanted to retain Durante they've lost their captain and importantly a loyalty player which frees up funds within the cap. Aspro looking more and more like he won't see regular minutes, the grass isnt always greener.

I'd say they thought he was staying.
Wellington Phoenix have been rocked by the departure of long-serving captain Andrew Durante.

it continues... "But it has come the time for me to put myself and my family first and move out of my comfort zone. I have an opportunity to challenge myself in a new environment, to take on a new adventure with my wife and kids, closer to our family."
Closer to his family? Wonder where his family live?

Yeah they sound gutted. Even offered him a coaching role to try to get him to stay.

If I was a Nix supporter, I’d have just found my team to hate.

Good. Australian football owes NZ nothing.
Punt them and give Canberra or Wollongong a go

Why is it an Nix OR those guys situation. We need to get to 14 teams to have a half decent home and away season. Canberra is almost guaranteed to be #13

TBF to Fulham....................what do we owe NZ Football? We have carried them for years and their National team is close to being better than ours now. Time to cut the Jandle wearers loose.

We don't owe them anything, but I think they offer us a more diverse competition. If we're targeting 14 teams for now lets assume Canberra is in and there's a spot free. I'd like to see that spot go to a Tasmania team but my understanding is that bid is dependent on funding/stadiums tied to hosting a womens world cup which hasnt been allocated and wont be until early 2020. The wolves wouldnt be a bad compromise but the FFA seems to want them for 2nd division. So what will we get if we ditch the nix? East Melbourne? Brisbane 2/Ipswitch possibly playing out of suncorp (but I hope they dont)?

The question is who is crying out for their own A league team that hasnt been covered already or can't be covered in the next two expansion spots and do they make the competition more diverse like the Nix? Or do we run the risk of another heart/city type situation of a big city club trying to set up in established territory and hope they have the oil money to see it through.

If you keep the nux you really need a 2nd NZ team to keep them relevant. But they dont function in the AFC so theres alot of political negatives that deter from keeping and adding NZ teams.

As for extra teams, id think Canberra and The shire/ Gong are shoe ins. Youd then look at East Melbourne/Dandenong/peninsula, North Bris/Redcliffe/Sunny Coast. Maybe then Freo, Tassie, Geelong.

Since the WMG (de facto Geelong bid) is in I can't see Geelong getting a gig. Greater Geelong (225,000) is smaller than the Central Coast and has about half the participants that we had in 2005. If WMG is successful they will half to garner support from both Melbourne and Geelong.

I think teams like Wollongong and South Melbourne, Adelaide City and a Southern Sydney (Olympic?/Sutherland?) team will come in via the second division.

For me if the Nix go, (which I think they will), they will be replaced by Canberra to maintain at 12. I then would jump to 16 and a full home and away with North Bris/Redcliffe/Sunny Coast,East and Melbourne/Dandenong/peninsula, Tassie and a second WA team (Freo?). If Nix stay still jump from 12 to 16 but with the Canberra replacing the second WA team (to now come via the second division). If the WWC bid is successful then you would think that in addition to a Tassie rectangular ground that the push for the Canberra stadium will gain impetus.

We don’t need them and also I don’t think they add diversity, NZ players who want to play in the HAL will so no loss in my opinion. It just doesn’t work and they will be history. We could always make a rule that NZ players don’t count as Visa players, simple fix.
