Interesting blog in the Washington Post recently, any rumors of Danny Allsopp coming our way?

Check the player ratings at the bottom, very interesting methinks

Loved the blog, but he can't be a Seppo. The humour is too subtle.

FRANCIS JEFFERS SIGNS WITH JETS
The Newcastle Jets have today signed former England International Francis Jeffers for a 10 match stint with the club as its designated Guest Player, with 5 of those being at home at EnergyAustralia Stadium in Newcastle.
Jeffers has a wealth of English Premier League experience having played with such prestigious clubs as Everton (49 appearances), Arsenal (22 appearances) and Sheffield Wednesday (54 appearances). He also played for England against Australia in 2003, scoring a goal for the English when beaten by the Socceroos in a 3-1 defeat at Upton Park, London.
A renowned goal scorer, Jeffers has scored over 30 goals in the English Premier League. He was also the all time leading scorer for England U21s with 13 goals, a record he shares with Alan Shearer.
The Newcastle Jets anticipate that Jeffers will contribute greatly to the teams ability to score goals. He comes to the club as a specialist striker and offers the club an ace in the front line.
Executive Chairman Ken Edwards expressed his delight in snaring the talented goal poacher, "Francis is a player of immense talent who has graced the English Premier league with success and comes to the Jets at a time when he is on the right side of thirty and hungry to showcase his abilities on the Hyundai A-League stage. We are excited about the prospect of seeing Francis forming a focal point of our attack and exploiting the goal-scoring opportunities that may come his way".

Newcastle Jets head coach, Branko Culina stated, "We are excited to have him on board, he is a player with great pedigree who has played at a high level and we hope his experience and knowledge will rub off on many of our younger players."
Jeffers said today on his signing "I like what is happening with the Club. It is an exciting period here and hopefully I would be able to assist the Jets to climb up the ladder during my time here. The lads and everybody at the Club has been great and made me feel welcome from the time I landed and I cant wait to get going".
It is anticipated that Jeffers will be available to play for the Newcastle Jets when the team plays against Adelaide United at Energy Australia on Saturday 13th November.

After the weekend, we find PG are still desperate for a win, SFC form slid back a bit against Roar, and the Jets lost.
Not quite so much to worry about, at least not yet.

Ex-Socceroo Danny Allsopp leaves DC United after just one season with the MLS club in the USA

Interesting...an australian striker off-contract.
Mariners are looking for a striker
Allsopp= speedy (according to Merrick he was faster than archie or Fred...and thats sayin something)
He also has a poor touch at times, and some days he scores, and some days he doesnt
I admit he is a very overrated player...but that is as in- i never believed him to be overseas material and/or socceroos material!
I think we should jump on this oppurtunity straight away!
Even if at worst, we offer him a 6mth contract- just to keep him employed, and then we can both go our seperate ways in the offseason. ie. I think he would have a lot more clubs interested in him in the offseason. And by that stage i think we might be closer to finding us that striker we need!

IMHO we'd be stupid not to contact his agent, my only question I have is whether
a) he wants to come back to Oz
B) how long a contract he wants (he is only 32)
c) how much $$$$ we have to spend

Allsopp is a speedy striker that can score...
not the perfect solution- but its short term.

Ernie may think he's speedy but I've never seen it.

We need a speedy striker who doesn't have the ball control of a donkey or the game reading mind of a gnat.

I think we have one squad place left - don't waste it!

i'd agree we shouldnt waste the 1 spot.
But tbh, are there any other alternatives?
Our triallist ended up being a dud...

leckie to celtic?
Fozzie not a happy camper!

Yeah I watched that. But it could work... Celtic is the kind of club on your resume that opens doors - there are quality players around him to learn off, but I do understand his concerns regarding development and the league.

Where do people think Leckie would be best developed?
