Thoughts?

Any surprises, anger etc?

I personally LOVE Mumford & Sons, and was very happy with them having number one.

The song by by Art Vs Science at nuumber two?
Are people aware that he's just saying "Do you speak french?" over and over again to a dodgy keyboard? Ugh.

Apart from that, just sucked that it lacked in variety...heaps of bands/artists appeared several times. And the announcers made me want to off myself with their boring monotone voices and annoying laughs.

They were never really main stream bands. They had huge live followings which gave them publicity but were always really "indie"bands".

These days the live local music scene is pretty much on life support so you would not really hear about the custards of today.

Plus there is also alot more hip hop which in its nature is more indie.

ok, im using the wrong term then.

The music they play now is more pop like, all seems to be light easy stuff.

i can't be f**ked with groups like the hilltop hoods etc. there's that much shite on the radio that i basically fire up my own music or listen to AM radio like a proper grumpy old curmudgeon.

though mumford and sons are good, and i for one don't mind that art vs science track. that bluejuice song can die in a ditch, and while the muse track (and the album it's from) isn't by any means bad, it's not worthy of the hype. you'd think they'd just released the white album or something.

At BDO yesterday when Powderfinger announced that song was #1 and busted out a cover of it everyone thought they were taking the piss....

Is a bit more than that but repetition in a song is hardly a new thing. Quite like it myself, prefer it to the number 1 actually but then I am probably influenced by what Art vs Science does live.

Was quite happy with it for the most part, got a couple of songs in the top 20 that I voted for which is a nice change.

As to the triple j in general, they can only play what is being produced and passed on to them. In fairness they have specialist shows for most genres and do quite a lot in promoting Australian music including up and comers (for example Art vs Science which unearthed 2 years ago). I still enjoy the music for the most part.

I must say the last 2 years have been incredibly predictable as to who would be top 2 but i was happy 9 out of my 10 songs i voted for got in (even if i did vote for far too many "mainstreamy" triple j songs for my liking)

As for triple j in general, dru hit the spot. The stuff they do for australian music is second to none and these bands only become "mainstream" because triple j go out and actively find and promote them.

As for ravana's point, that's not really triple j's fault, that's the music industry. In the 90's there were so many original, creative bands coming through like your custards, pulp, hole etc but originality is now just getting as much lesbian action as possible in film clips and using a synth 24/7. It's good for your 18th birthday parties but not for much else.

Exaclty my opinion of Muse. Yeah, they're good. But really..

Their latest album is a bit pretentious really...

Actually i would agree that it's a tad prententious....realised it yesterday when United States of Eurasia come on shortly after Too Many Dicks on the Dancefloor.
massive contrast.

Is it more the fact that you just can't get into it? I really hope I don't hold onto my era of music as much as past generations have. Im sorry but all three of those bands have not really made a blip besides Pulp which are becoming more & more as that band who sung "that common people song". Hole being creative? Love just raided the songs from Kurt's top draw. Please put down the Pavement records and continue on with your library of music.

There is plenty of stuff coming through that is creative and is still testing the boundaries of music, its just there is a massive lack of will to actually search and listen out for these bands instead of opting for whatever fodder that triple j is ramming down people's throats. Comeon! their number one Mumford & Sons, is the hideous cousin of Grizzly Bear. I highly suggest you listen to GB's album "Veckatimest". that or get a copy of Animal Collective's "Merriweather Post Pavillion" - two of the best albums to be released last year. See how you go with those for creativity.

The only thing that bugs me about triple j...is that it create "music snobs"...people who love music on triple j...but if the song makes it to commercial radio, they'll hate it.

Obviously, you didn't like the song all that much to begin with.

I work in commercial radio, so I am the first to say songs are over played...and the songs I don't like, I haven't liked from the start, regardless of how much they are played. But there are songs that I don't care get played 4 times a day...because I freakin' love them...
