The PUB
The concept is simple. Its a pub. You go, you drink up, you order some food. But there's one small difference.
You don't need to go to the bar to get your drinks. You don't get table service either. Instead there's a beer tree on every table. If you're drinking beer (and if you're not then you're really in the wrong joint) you take a glass from the friendly staff, freshen up the inside with some ice-cold water and then pour yourself a tall Pilsener Urquell - the original Pilsener.
As you pour your beers, it tallies them up and your table pays by the glass at the end of the night (divided into half-litre glasses). Better yet, your table's glasses are tallied on a big screen. As are every other table's glasses. The most unholy of drinking contests are therefore almost obligatory. Still better is the fact that your 'The PUB' competes in real time with the others in the Czech Republic.
The better half and I joined an old housemate at 'The PUB - Plzen 1' back in December, and it was an absolute blast. We weren't in the running for the top of the leaderboard, as there was a table that had smacked down more than 70 glasses of beer - more than 35 litres or about 4 cases worth. But our pub was running second in the country that night and we were doing our bit.
To go with the glorious beer, there's also pretty tasty food, including garlic soup and fried cheese. Nom nom nom...
If you're ever in the Czech Republic, you should find one!
