ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I was there that night.. to that date nothing has approached that night in the sense of a sporting contest for me... The witch doctor and his curse ... JW had recently passed on...

In watching that clip I realised that I haven`t been to a World Cup match since the 2-2 draw in Melbourne.
It was a truly horrifying experience to watch your country go from 2-0 to 2-2 in the space of minutes. From enjoying 90,000 screaming Aussies to drudging out of the MCG in total silence.
We walked back to the Crown Casino, nobody talking, everyone just stunned.

What we experienced in Brisbane didn`t even compare to that day...

Nice, sweet and bittersweet memories.

I think the person who did the video should get facts right - Peter Wilson was captain at the 1974 World Cup, not Johnny.

I remember watching the qualifier with some mates' in one of the flats at the apartment complex I was living at on the Gold Coast. I remember watching, as the game went on, and wondering if maybe this would always be the case. Maybe the World Cup would forever be the Achilles' Heel of Australian sporting pride, the one event that this country were destined to be also-rans at, while barely heard of countries like Seneghal got to enjoy exceeding expectations in the biggest sporting event of all? I remember thinking, perhaps Uruguay would be forever our bogey team. I remember how quickly and powerfully my heart was thumping as the match went into penalties, thinking that any moment, all the energy in the room would drain like water gushing down a sink, and we'd sit there not saying much, all thinking about how it'd be another 4 years before we even got a chance to redeem ourselves...

When Aloisi booted it into the net, I don't remember much except people in the room with me jumping up and down and hugging. I don't even remember whether or not I leapt over the couch or someone else did it or I wanted to do it. I just remember wanting to get drunk and the sudden lightness that came with knowing we would be there in Germany the following year.
