Should FFA do more to promote the season launch

We are only a few days away from the stat of the a-League and other than the rusted on is anyone aware.

We launch in the business rounds of the NRL & AFL seasons. Then the final series of the NRL & AFL. The Tri Nations. The Cricket battle for the Ashes.

My understanding is many of the crowd attending A-League matches also follow other codes. Many of the people who watch Fox also follow other codes..

Does the FFA need to do more to launch its season opening as getting media space at this time of year will be difficult.  I have not heard or seen one advertisement about the start of the season.

As you said MF the real football fans are aware.

Tbh anyone whose first love is another game is unlikely to be attending football games until their season is over imo.

There are enough real football fans in this country.If we could get most of them to attend games we wouldn't need to worry so much about attracting part timers from other codes.

Why burn cash now advertising when space is so expensive with AFL/NRL heading into the finals in September? Also I feel most advertising from FFA would go unregistered or unseen by the target sports fan as theyre engrossed in the culmination of the AFL/NRL seasons.

They will pump the advertising when the rival code's finals are over and people are looking to whats next to watch and take the family to.

Saw an A-League TV add a few days back. I think it was around 11:30pm. I haven't seen it since. There should be more of that IMO. At least from now up until the first round anyway.

What channel was the ad on? Possibly could have just been a fox sports ad rather than one the ffa and the league have put out

the official A-League ad is shite, the Fox Sports one is far more emotive and less gimmicky imo... they definately should be doing more.

We have 2 new teams this season, an expanded finals series (not that i agree with top 6 from 10 teams but thats what it is) and yet there seems to be little hype around all of this.

True the loyal football supporters are well aware but we need to get off to a good start with attendances to avoid further drops in support like we saw last season.

The thing that is dissapointing about all of this is that i am certain the level of football this season will be far superior to anything we have seen so far, less predictibility with all teams having some really good players and more variation with these new teams means we arent playing the same team every few weeks.

Fingers crossed there is some advertising to come in the next week, particuarly in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Perhaps the world cup bid is the first priority for the FFA which would be fair enough IMO as it is a massive carrot dangling for us, i cant wait for the egg ball codes to be done with so football takes centre stage.

The League season means even less now since finals places are less of a "prize".

IMO the advertising is (or should be) targetted towards the audience who may only take an interest if advertising, the media, and/or "water-cooler talk" let them know that something's going on. Typically these heat up in the approach to finals time and that's when the bandwagonners are drawn in. However with 60% of the league qualifying for finals, the top spots will be foregone conclusions and the only battles will be for the lesser finals spots; there is every chance the fair-weather fans could very well follow the finals race even less than previous seasons.

There may also be some sense in having the season partly underway by the time other codes finish. Maybe the advertising budget is being saved up for AFL and NRL grand final telecasts?

problem with allowing all the advertising to wait till a third of the way through the season is that there is no kick start to the start of it and its difficult to get that momentum in interest back, we have a hard enough time getting the media to pay attention to our code so if anything they should be hitting it hard now while not much else attention is paid to it because once the NRL and AFL seasons are done the a-league will get alot more media coverage which in a sense is free advertising.

Not saying your wrong, just my opinion

My guess is the FFA simply doesnt have the money for it, with the money we get from the world cup next year we may see season 6 hit hard with advertising and of course season 6 we will most likely be a 12 team league which is then really becoming a serious competition.

I actually think a good form of advertising which i assume would be pretty cheap compared to TV and radio are those mobile trucks which drive around with banners on the sides, drive those around the main roads of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane etc and alot of people will take note of it.

Traffic in Sydney crawls along so slowly people have plenty of time to read them !

Good on em to be fair, the game does need a Sydney franchise that works.

I dont understand how having more teams make the finals, means that the top 2 will be so much better than the rest of the competition than in previous years?

Sorry, didn't mean that the leader/s will be further in front of the rest of the pack, just that for the teams in the top 1-2 places on the ladder the last few rounds won't be as exciting for bandwagon supporters (who only care about making the grand final), because their finals berth will most likely be assured well before the final round (you would expect) ... more so now that they only have to worry about dropping to 7th spot as opposed to 5th.
