October 1st 2008 (HAL transfer window opens)

October 1st 2008 sees Gold Coast United and North Queensland FC allowed to buy players who currently play in the A-League. Bleiberg and Ferguson will be scouting the league and overseas to build up new franchaises from scratch. They will need to sign approx 32 to 35 players with a main squad of 23 and then up to 12 youth players. All clubs have high profile players coming off contract at the end of this season and it is quite possible the squads in the league this season will not been seen again as player movement will dramatically increase.
Players off contract include some of the biggest names in the league with Covic, Griffiths Brothers (Sackwacker), Brosque, Moore and Smeltz. Plus a host of others.

The Mariners have players such as Vukovic, Bosnich, Nash, Clark, O'Grady, Gumprechet and Mrdja.

Wondering who will be the first signings annouced and which big players do u think will be heading to these new teams?

I've already heard a few rumours, we've all heard the Van Stratton to Gold Coast one, I wouldn't be surprised to hear of 1 or 2 Mariners to perhaps follow Fergie to NQ?  I've also heard an interesting 1 on who will be Fergie's assistant, good news for the league!

A lot of names coming off contract, clubs will want to secure their best players ASAP.  From a Mariners perspective I'd be getting a signature from Danny, Bojic and Wilko ASAP.

sasho and bojic would have to be the other two we could worry about losing

quite smartly Lawrie negotiated alot of two contracts at the beginning of this season

Yes but I think he could do a job for them, he's young and still learning, someone like Fergie could be what he needs?  He's not exactly doing much where he is now so a change could be good, possible pay rise too I imagine?

Saso could well be someone we are prepared ot let go at the end of this season. Thats no reflection on his ability as a player but Lawrie has said he wants to reduce the average age of the squad and we will have Simon, Dylan and who knows...............Mrdja.
