I don't think it's awful - there is a cavalcade of green and neon yellow shockers from adidas in the 90s and the infamous vomit strip, so it's just not as good as the two very good shirts just gone. I like that they're at least keeping to a theme - mostly yellow home, mostly blue away. We're distinctly recognisable, and we've had worse.

They want to sell shirts, they have to change them enough.

It is growing on me since i saw the basic ages ago. Definately looks better than the mock up. But not a great fan

I don't really like it but it's not scraping the bottle of the barrell like some of the previous efforts. http://www.smh.com.au/sport/football/socceroos-new-world-cup-look-really-rubbish-but-not-that-bad-20100427-tq4k.html I'm more worried about the Nike influence: "Oar was full of praise for the look of the new shirt which is decorated with the Southern Cross, the coat of arms and the motto ''Never Say Never'' just above the heart."

Having any advertising slogans on our national team's shirts is just not on imo in fact I thought that would breach FIFA's advertising restrictions during the World Cup. Any sponsored stadium has to be referred to by its "local" name (just as we had to play at Central Coast Stadium during the ACL) and all other advertising except by approved commercial partners is removed or covered up.

Obviously the brands logo will appear on shirts, boots, tracksuits etc - but an advertising slogan?

As one of the comments stated below this article, this is the closest i have evr come to agreeing with Craig Foster.

Australia should have been presented with a lineage of the games champions, every former Australian captain wearing his own shirt from each era, to place the latest example in the context of history.

This is how to build the mystique around football and strengthen the culture of the game.

But what did Australia get? Two players, a brief media opportunity, and no better understanding in the wider community of what football is, what it's about, and where it has come from.

Then again, what can one expect with virtually no-one at FFA having played the game, let alone worn the shirt.

As to the design, my question is: where is the reference to history?

In my view, three things are non-negotiable and must remain constant.

The most powerful symbol of our proud past is the Australian Coat of Arms worn on the 1974 shirt, something that should never have been changed.

Change the name from ASF to SA and lately FFA, but the prominent crest stays. It is the greatest symbol of the struggle the game has endured, something that always must be remembered, regardless of how the game develops.

I also see the white socks and dark green shorts as sacrosanct.

All three vital connections with the past.

Of course, to understand this, you have to understand the reverence with which the game is held by those who love it, and should be held by any who are blessed to work within it.

And you have to respect the game. Just dont look for this at FFA.

Sadly, instead of a powerful statement about the history of football and its place in modern Australia, all we got was just another shirt launch.

Aweful, aweful, aweful.  :vomit:

Looks like a cross between ARL and 1 day cricket.

It will lose us the rights to host 2022.  ;D

Kinda like it more now foster doesnt like it.... anyone else find that.

Dont agree with Foster at all. Past captains had time to wear the strip when they were exactly that.

Yeah, Foster is a nob. Personally, I like the new strip. Then again, we don't have RL in Tassie, so I might be missing that connection.
