New Daily Telegraph format favours Football coverage?

Since the Olympics closed the Daily Telegraph has had a new format and look.

I've noticed too, that it seems like they have added more column space to Football coverage.

Last week I noticed a solid two pages of Football news, same goes for today's paper.

And I also notice that Tom Smithies has been given a commentary column (quite sizeable too) to write up in today's paper. Prominently posted too, on the inside of the back page.

Previously, dingbats like Paul Kent or Rebecca Wilson would have been given that task and the talk would have been about Life, the Universe and Rugby League ( or, in the case of Wilson, how women should avoid dating RL players).

This does appear to be more media coverage of Football.

A while ago, and not too distant in the past, folks like Smithies would barely had been given small match reports to put to print, while other codes of football had such commentaries as Smithies has filed this week, and were given blocks of pages. We now have at least two pages, so it seems.

Are FINALLY the media people realising there's some people interested in this game of ours and we will actually buy their papers if they put Football news in their paper?

Has Midfielder's constant media campaigns finally paid of  ;D   ?

Is the sermon, according to St. Simon of SBS/Foxtel, coming to fruition?

I think you are right Channel 9 are giving football more coverage than they have in the past both smh & tellie ..........even SBS are giving Fozzie a break from the A-League and put FA as the main commenter good to see as well.

Ch 7 are still the same, they changed the football at the Olympics in the end but 7 still are bad news.

But overall agree with you clarence maybe the crowd numbers and Palmer getting on board is starting to get a little bid of respect.

When they get Lara Bingle/ Paris Hilton/ Pam Anderson or any other dumb bimbo who is famous for being famous, off their lead story I'll consider visiting their website.

At the start of the NRL season they give each TEAM a 2 page spread..... The A-League got hardly any mention at all. Not to mention all the golf, baseball, cricket and almost any other conceivable sport that they will mention before football.

Daily Telegraph, such a good paper it is able to be read in Newcastle!!!

Seriously, how ANYONE could read a paper with writers such as Piers Aker-person, Tim "Fourth Reich" Blair, Rebecca "Ten Dix" Wilson, Ray "Abe Simpson" Chesterton & Paul "FIGJAM" Kent is absolutely beyond me.
