Melbourne Victory captain Kevin Musc**t could find himself in hot water from Football Federation Australia after brushing away the hand of a match referee.

Musc**t angrily confronted the match officials at half-time during Melbourne's 3-1 loss to Perth at Members Equity Stadium on Saturday night.

The 35-year-old was upset a foul wasn't called against Perth's Dino Djulbic after the Glory defender challenged Victory keeper Michael Theoklitos in the air.

After Musc**t vented his frustrations, he appeared to fend away the hand of assistant referee Michael Nugus who was trying to guide the Victory hard-nut in the direction of the change rooms.

Victory coach Ernie Merrick stepped between the pair to diffuse the situation.

Musc**t was not penalised for the incident and refused to elaborate on what happened when questioned about it after the match.

"I shook his hand after the game and wished him all the best," a tight-lipped Musc**t said.

Last season, Central Coast Mariners keeper Danny Vukovic was handed a 15-month ban, with six months of that suspended, for manhandling referee Mark Shield in the grand final.

Although Musc**t's actions were far less aggressive than that of Vukovic's, the veteran still faces an anxious wait to see whether FFA takes any action.

Meanwhile, Merrick declared striker Archie Thompson a certain starter for the Victory's clash with Newcastle on December 19.

Thompson missed the loss to Perth after copping a knock to his knee at training but Merrick was confident his star charge would shake off the injury.

The Victory were due to play Adelaide next week but now have a bye as the Asian Champions League finalists contest the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan.

"Archie was tackled, just a mishap at training in the last training session," Merrick said.

"We thought he'd be able to run it off, we didn't think it would be a problem.

"But it stiffened up overnight and on the flight and again we thought he'd come good but it never quite eventuated.

"It's just irritated and inflamed.

"He got a knock on the side of the knee when he was with the national team, that's going back a while, and he just irritated it."

He will get off............count on it

I hate Musc**t as much as the next person.

The assistant shouldnt have touched him.

end of.

All the assistant did was to try to diffuse an ugly confrontation. If Musc**t did that to another player he would have seen a card, maybe red.

Fact is he struck a ref, can't do it under any circumstance. He should be sitting out a few, but probably won't.

Muscat should have got a card for the verbal abuse.

All the assistant did was touch a player, he cant do that.

He slapped away the hand that was touching him. Well within his rights.

He would not have got a card for doing that to another player.

Judging by what was described here, the AR went a little too far. If that is the case, then I'd expect no action by FFA. Maybe the AR was trying to get Muscat's attention - any footage to view so we can make up our own minds?

Yes, because it the laws of football it quite clearly says...

"at anytime before, during or after a match, if an official lays a hand on a player, that player has the right to use force to remove said hand"

Whilst I agree that the official should not have touched muscat, your comment is f**king stupid. You cant touch an official, end of

Yes, as it also says in the laws of football...

"any official who handles a player, be it in a friendly or aggressive manner, will be subject to the same punishment as any player who dose the same thing, roles reversed"  ::)

Are you taking the piss?

Muscat spared
MELBOURNE Victory defender Kevin Muscat has avoided an A-League judiciary appointment after Football Federation Australia said no disciplinary incidents arose from weekend games.

Muscat seemed to be in trouble when, while having words with the referee at half-time over an unpunished challenge, he fended away the hand of assistant referee Michael Nugus, who was trying to direct the skipper to the change rooms during the 3-1 away loss to Perth.
