My thoughts exactly. Throw in doubts about their ACL campaign without Ange and the Roar's current ownership problems and all of a sudden some players may have their minds on their futures and not on the gf.

Nice work Victory!!!

I'd say a bombardment of social media with the fact that Ange is heading south would be in order :pirashoot:

One of our Brisbane GF drop in kindly posted the below:

[One way of Ange getting his price up at Roar .. leak a story?! May backfire tomorrow?]

"Ange Postecoglou to extend Brisbane reign as FFA blocks Victory bid for Roar coach From: The Courier-Mail March 12, 2011 12:01AM 4

THE FFA will quash Melbourne Victory's attempts to poach Ange Postecoglou by signing the all-conquering Roar coach to a long-term deal that will keep him in Brisbane next season and beyond.
Speculation was rife yesterday that the Victory were about to sack foundation coach Ernie Merrick and offer Melbourne-raised Postecoglou a lucrative four-year deal despite the former Young Socceroos boss being contracted to the Roar until March next year.

But in great news for the Roar ahead of the biggest occasion in the club's history tomorrow's A-League grand final against Central Coast Mariners at a packed Suncorp Stadium the FFA will secure Postecoglou's Roar future when they take over the running of the cash-strapped club next week.

"After the grand final we will sit down with Ange to ensure his long-term future is with Brisbane Roar," an FFA spokesman said last night""

AAP reports:Grantley Bernard, March 12, 2011 1:47PM "Our club sets extremely high standards and we are disappointed with the results of the recent A-League season and also our start to the Champions League campaign," said Di Pietro, who has just succeeded Geoff Lord as club chairman.

"Our intent is to continue to be the benchmark club in the A-League.

"We wish to be successful in Asia and believe this decision will assist in taking us to that level."

Di Pietro said the club would mount a national and international search to find Merrick's replacement.

Youth team coach and former Socceroo Mehmet Durakovic will take charge of the team for the remainder of the ACL.

The chairman was tight-lipped when asked if successful Brisbane Roar coach Ange Postecoglou - originally from Melbourne and mooted as Merrick's likely replacement - was the sort of person who would fit the club's criteria.

Postecoglou leads the Roar into the grand final on Sunday against Central Coast Mariners in Brisbane, and has another year remaining on his current deal with the club.

"As far as Ange is concerned, we wish him well tomorrow, but we haven't commenced the search yet," Di Pietro said.

Di Pietro also said there would be no other coaching changes, with assistant coaches Aaron Healey and Kevin Muscat and football operations boss Gary Cole retaining their jobs at this stage.
