ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Lost sponsorship

Power companies will no longer be allowed to hire corporate boxes, sponsor footy teams, orchestras or zoo exhibits under cuts introduced by NSW Energy Minister Chris Hartcher.

Mr Hartcher has removed a sponsorship of the Central Coast Mariners football team worth $350,000 each year.

egat!

will that even work? i don't have great knowledge in this area but i would have thought that where there's competition there's advertising and marketing...which is where those same dollars are now going to be re-channeled into.
which is further crazy because sponsorship is really a form of marketing and advertising anyway

or am i way off here?

I don't know the details of the sponsorship deal but would imagine that there is a contract so would expect the terms to be honoured; the Mariners would be at fault if they budgeted for the deal to continue beyond its current term - no sponsorship can be guaranteed longterm - so although this is a blow it is all part of the usual sponsorship begging bowl routine.

Once they sell them off they'll be able to sponsor again....

It is more for appearances and to look like they are doing something about power prices. But add up the savings, and average them out among all domestic and commercial users...wont save a dime really

Govt sponsoring elite sport is a bad look. Privatise the power companies, then they will all be spending a whole heap more on sport marketing to win your business. Short term this is bad for CCM, long run it is better for the sponsorship market i'd argue.

Hmm, I don't really get this... Sponsorship, traditionally goes off the marketing budget... I'd be surprised if this'll even change the marketing budget... That 350.000 will just be spent on a couple of extra radio commercials, wasting the money in the ether, rather than marketing money, for once, actually doing something worthwhile.
Besides, it's not like it's tax-payer money going into it, it's the money earned from providing electricity, very different to generalised government sponsorship.

Ausgrid (and Energy Australia before the name change) were the sponsors of the free memberships for junior players. Potentially quite significant impact there...
