Sydney FC's Kofi Danning nominated for Young Footballer of the Year award

September 01, 2009 Good news keeps coming for Sydney FC's Kofi Danning who has won the first nomination for the A-League's Young Footballer of the Year award.

Danning was voted the most outstanding player aged under 21 from the four rounds played in August as the 18-year-old Ghana-born striker helped his unbeaten team to the top of the ladder with three wins and a draw.

It caps a big month for Danning who was recently given the green light by football's governing body FIFA to be eligible to play for his adopted country Australia, starting with this month's Under-20 World Cup in Egypt.

The six nominees chosen through the season are being selected by an FFA-assembled panel including Young Socceroos coach Jan Versliejen and Fox Sports commentator Andy Harper.

An absolutely fantastic player, one of my favourite A-league players and at 18 is already better than most of the mariners.

Say what you want about Kossie ... but we he signed Gan & Danning he knew what he was doing ... both excellent young players...

Look, both Danning and Gan are stars for the future. A selection of Danning by someone like Harper (who was an ex CEO of Sydney FC yes?), just makes the water murky that's all.

Danning did well near the end of Sydney's season last year, but gee, they were shit then. He's been given the thumbs up by his prima donna striker, Aloisi, and obviously his well credentialled coach, Lavicka & yes, he can rip another hole in other team's defences.

But not ours, with Heff onto him like the old pro he is becoming!

Like Gan, teams are now looking at these players with more scrutiny. It is now firmly in these younger players' courts to step up a gear and meet the challenge or succumb to it and be a one season wonder.

Whilst I think the "Black Carney" can go on and really make a mark in the game (O/S) Grant and Gan are probably both better players (IMHO)

yes i said most mariners, and i agree with you Heff killed him, i was very impressed with Dean. but u look at our first team tonight, Nik Mrdja is a starting striker, Kofi owns Mrdja and he is only 18, the kid has great potential.

lol i love the mariners more than any other team but i dont look at football from a pro-mariner view i try to look from a non bias football as much as possible and as i have already stated he is a fantastic propspect for Australian football.

danning hasn't done much this year. got one nice goal and assist against the furries, but who hasn't? :whistles:

i would have thought comparing him favourably to mrdja to damn him with faint praise.

Did bring a lot of spark that Sydney was lacking today against Gold Coast. Realy lit up the second half.
