Japan coach ready to shut up Socceroos

Japans coach Takeshi Okada has poured fuel on his sides intense rivalry with the Socceroos, saying he wants to shut up the Australian side.

Okada was speaking as Japan arrived home after routing Qatar 3-0 ahead of their next World Cup qualifier, against Australia in Tokyo on February 11.

We definitely want to beat Australia and I think it is possible, the coach told reporters as the Blue Samurai returned home from Doha.

I want to shut them up. :vhappy: :vhappy:

The two nations have developed a strong rivalry since the Socceroos came from nowhere to beat Japan 3-1 in the group stages of the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Japan avenged the loss when they beat Australia on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the 2007 Asian Cup quarter-finals in Hanoi.

Australia last week jumped ahead of Japan on the FIFA rankings, listed at No.37 to the Blue Samurais No.38.

The Socceroos pulled off a last-gasp 1-0 victory over Bahrain in Manama on Wednesday.

Australia dominate Group A with a perfect nine points from three matches, two points clear of Japan.

Qatar trail with four points from four games, with Bahrain and Uzbekistan at the bottom with one point each

I have given so much shit to one of my Japanese friends about the 3-1 win that I can understand them wanted to shut us up.

I wasn't sure how we would go against Japan. But now I'm confident we'll win because this is like Keegan's "I'd love it!"

I love that we built this epic international rivalry out of nothing and so quickly.

We are the Brazil vs Argentina of Asia. A match always worth looking forward to.

We shamed them in the Fritz-Walter-Stadion and ended their World Cup in 6+ minutes. They got very little redemption in the Asian Cup. This stuff is so good for football in Australia - I've got non-fan friends who are already booking trips to Melbourne 2009 and even tossed around the idea of Yokohama. Bring on the Paper Samurai!

On a side note, I hate Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi with such a passion it burns my veins.

That's funny....but we seem to bring this sort of frustration against our sport teams...the Wobblies, our national cricket teams...netballers...we brag so much. At least our netballers have the right to. the Wobblies are a joke and our cricketers are struggling the last 18 months.
