THE TIME for armchair support is over. We now all need to step up and back Australias bid for hosting the 2018 or 2022 World Cup finals.
There cannot be a football fan in the country who does not want to see Australia bring the greatest sporting event in the world Down Under. And we need to show that.
While football remains an emerging' sporting code in this country, the FIFA suits who pick the host country need convincing that this is an event the people of Australia want. That also applies to administrators and politicians across Australia.
So as Australia's voice of the people who matter, the fans, we at FourFourTwo are making a plea to ensure our readers are doing everything they can to help land the World Cup.
When the 2010 World Cup in South Africa kicks off in little over six months, you don't want to be sitting at home wishing you'd done more to support Australia's bid ahead of FIFA's decision at the end of next year.
So what can you do?
Registering your support at FFA's official Come Play' World Cup bid website is a bare minimum. It is a quick, easy process that will take up very little of your time.
So far 43,538 people have pledged their support, that's not even half of the number of people who visit this website every month. Plus there is a FourFourTwo group to join on the site.
Register, then forward on details of this simple, but vital process, to at least five people, getting them to do the same.
It doesn't stop there. Sending an email or letter to the government and your state Premier stressing your support and reasons will aid the bid.
Below is an example of what to write. Feel free to send out exactly what is written below or add in your own personal views on why you want Australia to win the World Cup finals bid.
We're not asking for too much of your time here, but 5-10 minutes from everyone could be the difference in landing quite simply the most spectacular sporting event and experience this country will ever witness.
Dear ..........
I am writing to you about Australia's bid for the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World Cup.
I know this is a grand ambition for Australia and I want to thank you for your Government's support of the bid. While it is the case that I am a passionate football fan, I also believe that a successful bid would be good for the country and good for the Asia Pacific region.
This is the region of the future and Australia offers fantastic major event experience.
It would also help deliver much needed upgrades to stadiums and other infrastructure that would be of use for generations to come - not just 2018 or 2022, but the 30-50 year economic life of a stadium.
Please be assured that this bid has my strong personal support.
Yours sincerely
