ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

HAL teams and their NRL counterparts...

In a similar vein to my 'HAL teams and their EPL counterparts' thread last year, except now its' NRL teams under the spotlight. I imagine the usual anti-NRL brigade on here will say all the usual predictable things, but for the rest of you (and even those of you who *gasp* FOLLOW THE NRL TOO) I'd love to see if you agree or if there's a glaring omission from this list? Here's my take:

BRISBANE ROAR= PENRITH PANTHERS. Underachievers, considering their rescources and the local demographic they are based out of. How they haven't achieved more in terms of support and on-field success is somewhat a mystery.

ADELAIDE UNITED= ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA. Can do well during the course of a season, but come any sudden-death football and their fans become very nervous indeed...

MELBOURNE VICTORY= MELBOURNE STORM. The best team of recent years, albeit with a few grubs and wankers in their midst (Cameron Smith, Billy Slater/ Archie Thompson, Kevin Musc**t).

GOLD COAST UNITED= BRISBANE BRONCOS. A good team on the field, but the amount of whingeing and bleating that emanates from the club and its' fans when they don't get their own way is unbelievable at times.

NEWCASTLE JETS= CRONULLA SUTHERLAND SHARKS. The club is an off-field shambles, supported by bogan ferals who think "F**k off we're full" is a witty political statement and that throwing beer and/or coins shows how hardcore you are.

SYDNEY FC= MANLY-WARRINGAH SEA EAGLES. The silvertail club who can seemingly buy any player they desire, with friends in high places (Arko and the ARL/ Lowy and the FFA).

NORTH QUEENSLAND FURY= NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS. Have much potential in the League, despite relatively poor results on-field.

PERTH GLORY= PARRAMATTA EELS. A club whose last glory days are well and truly history, but showing signs that a new era of success may be just around the corner.

WELLINGTON PHOENIX= GOLD COAST TITANS. Started with nothing and, in a short space of time, have built a well-run, reasonably well supported team. Now for the on-field success to follow...

And last but not least-

CENTRAL COAST MARINERS= CANBERRA RAIDERS. Written off before every season by the "experts", and while rarely the form team of the comp, they often succeed expectations and are capable of beating anyone when they are in-form.

Yep, I thought you'd like them.

Tenuous links are I suppose: a) team sport, b) in same NSW catchments

Given that I have spent 59 years trying not to know anything about these teams that have been pushed down my throat against my will by media, school times, work times, and my in-laws; I'll pass from here and let you all have fun.

you can also add used means to question both my sexual orientation, and even worse, as a racially motivated abuse

Thankyou sym. If you want to know what it's really like having something pushed down your throat by the media, work and social contacts, try living in Victoria and not following the AFL.

All good comments.

Praise the Gods that I'm not living in Melbourne, Tassie, or NZ where the squashed ball coverage is severely overkill.

And yes, league is a common pastime, with big emphasis on 'common'. The % of bogans following ARL is even higher than that of Newcastle Scum.

I love it when an ARL-lover engages me in conversation over one of their star players and I can with all honesty say "Who"?" I've made ARL avoidance an art form like Kevrenor.

LOL I love it when someone uses it as an icebreaker. So, what do you think of <INSERT TEAM>.

Response. I'm sorry, I have no idea what you are talking about.

Its quite funny that I share the same tense, head shaking feelings for Mariners right now as I do with the Melbourne Demons.

Yup.  Quite tiresome from those who will be the first to kick and scream when somebody dares criticise the sport they like.

Pretty good analogy with the teams really :D

It would be tiresome only if you were not on a football forum, but you are!  You can then readily understand how tiresome football criticism is in non-League, non AFL, non Rugby forums, and especially in everyday life.

There is that one difference, although TBH Cronulla probably would have a Grand Final win from '78 if they hadn't played Manly. Apart from that, the similarities are quite noticeable.
