HEAVILY RUMOURED:

Heavily rumoured is pretty much definite. There are also two other players from the A-League signed that is being kept very, very quiet.

Damn good squad they are amassing.

Thats Porter (A) not Porter (B) I assume.

I think the HAL needs anew team with glamour and which will be competitive straight away. Gets more publicity and another 3 derbies too

good squad on paper and still have under 23 marquee + marquee which theyll no doubt use

Wish we had the budget to get Coyne. Would be great to have a top quality centre back in the back to sure up any inexperience.

What makes you think we don't?

But would a player like Coyne fit into our defense backline? He's more of a sweeper I hear.

As with GC not confirming any of their signings on contract so as to not have them picked on for the rest of the season

Mick is ur mail confirmed yet on adam griffiths?

THE magnetic lure of Gold Coast United has attracted yet another accomplished name with some-time Socceroo Adam Griffiths agreeing to a two-year deal with the A-League expansion club.

The Newcastle Jets defender, who can also play in midfield or as a full-back, becomes the 12th player snapped up by the outfit backed by gregarious billionaire Clive Palmer.

But only eight of those names are in the public domain with United boss Miron Bleiberg keeping a veil of secrecy over his signings to protect players from a possible backlash from their club coaches and their own fans.

"I can't confirm any signings of current A-league players because it's not fair to them," said Bleiberg.

"I want to let them concentrate on their own seasons and not have any undue pressure placed on them. If I want them to succeed and justify my signing them, why do I have to make them look bad (by revealing their identities)."

It is believed Bleiberg plans to team Griffiths with Socceroos defender Chris Coyne, who he hopes to bring back from England where he is struggling to get a start with third tier Colchester United.

Griffiths, whose twin brother Joel has recently inked a lucrative new Jets deal, has a list of credits including Oostende in Belgium and Watford, Bournmouth and Brantford in English footballer's lower levels.

He recently turned 29 and is positioning himself as a multi-media personality in the form of a bonsai-sized David Beckham with a line of fashion wear decorated by his own artistic motifs.

An abstract painter of growing renown, he is a combative presence on the field capable of brushing off the attentions of most strikers. He even has a celebrity fiancee in the form of glamorous English actress Lilly Brown.

With Gold Coast the self-styled Tinseltown team the coming of Griffiths, who has two Socceroos caps, could be a marriage made in football and marketing heaven.

Bleiberg, though, remained unforthcoming about his secret signings.

"Usually the transfer market is in January in the A-League, but we're still in October and there is two thirds of the season to go," he said.

"Look at the reaction last year when (Perth Glory) fans booed Simon Colosimo and (Newcastle supporters) jeered Mark Bridge when they learned they had signed for Sydney FC. For these reasons I cannot say who I have got."

Another Bleiberg capture, Central Coast midfielder Matt Osman, falls into that category, although Bleiberg is happy to acknowledge the arrival of former Adelaide United and Wellington Phoenix defender Kristian Rees as a squad player.

Another in that mould is Daniel Piorkowski, the former Melbourne Victory centre back who is approaching the end of a stop-gap stint with the Jets and is bound for Skilled Park also.

While he will be at top end of the club's food chain, Bleiberg has also offered an olive branch to what he describes as 'blue collar' players.

Rees, who played 35 times for the Reds, is one of them,

I cannot bring myself to comment.....................and they seem to like it WTF

Great to see the GCUFC forums have started to kick in.

The supporters club would most definitely have to be called:

WHITE SHOE BRIGADE

This name is already known Australia wide relating to the Gold Coast and is reference to some pioneers of the Gold Coast. The white shoe brigade of developers who built the canal estates and high rise developments on the Gold Coast in the days of Joh Bjelke-Peterson. It is a reference to both a develop at all costs mentality and poor political process

They want to name themselves after developers & Peterson? In the days of Peterson corruption in politics & development was rife & if you had marched to a stadium you have been arrested. If you marched anywhere for that matter.

A political cartoon from that period.

Brazilian trio all set for 2009/10 campaign

MIRON Bleibergs quest to add a dose of South American flair to the Gold Coast United roster has been successful with confirmation today that three Brazilian players will be joining the squad in 2009.

As expected, midfielders Robson (Robson Alves da Silva) and Jefferson (Jefferson Charles de Souza Pinto) have agreed terms with United and will be joined by 31-year-old striker Milson (Milson Ferreira Dos Santos). All three players have penned one-year deals with the new Hyundai A-League club.

After watching the 185cm forward in a recent trial match, United Head Coach Miron Bleiberg could not resist offering Milson a deal following his impressive performance.

Hes very strong in the air and for a big guy is mobile and intelligent around the penalty box, Bleiberg said.

Milson is an elegant player who has been around and Im delighted to have secured his services for our inaugural season. He really caught my eye when I watched him and he will be a great asset to our squad. His experience will valuable to us, he added.

Since 1999 when he turned out for Botafogo (Brazil), Milson has plied his trade overseas with a number of clubs, including Chengdu Blades and Shenzen of China, as well as a stint in Saudi Arabia with Al-Nassr.

Bleiberg returns from his overseas odyssey tomorrow (Tuesday) and will pursue his other transfer targets in the New Year, with the club looking to complete its roster by mid-January.

CONFIRMED ROSTER TO DATE (15 players):
Goalkeepers: Jess Vanstrattan, Scott Higgins.
Defenders: Adam Griffiths, Daniel Piorkowski, Kristian Rees.
Midfielders: Matt Osman, Steve Fitzsimmons, Zenon Caravella, Steve Pantelidis, James Brown, Robson, Jefferson.
Strikers: Shane Smeltz, Andrew Barisic, Milson.

Three Brazilians straight up? At least he has been and seen them all play in a real match and not just off of a youtube video.

Whats peoples thoughts on the squad assembled so far?
