Are We Still Awake?

Why on earth would anybody pay good money to watch Central Coast Mariners?
Kristian Rees was clearly sleep-walking when he lazily lifted a leg to block Matt Simon's header. I was half asleep when Smeltz scored the equaliser 30 minutes later, and the game finally came to life.
Actually, I missed the Kiwi star's goal because I was staring in a semi-hypnotised state at an on-field official's bum. The Mariners will do that to you.
Even their supporters are boring. What's with that slow, quiet drumming? Dom... Dom... Dom... It's like listening to a dripping tap.
But that's Lawrie McKinna's game, innit? He tells his big, strong boys to sit back, hold the ball, and be patient. Forget about entertaining the crowd, winning is all that matters. Dom... Dom... Dom...!
Anyone sitting behind the team from Terrigal on the A-League ladder should be embarrassed. But finding yourself 17 points adrift on goal difference is just Emo territory.
Miron Bleiberg's team are supposed to be entertainers, right? And once upon a time, if you can remember, they really were. So whatever happened to that team?
Well, there were some encouraging signs that the spirit of Jogo Bonito is still very much alive and well at Skilled Park.
Let's start with Andrew "The Barracuda" Barisic, who scored seven goals for the youth team, plus many more in pre-season, before finally sinking his teeth into the Mariners. I was only one of many fans to nominate the big, slippery fish as a danger this week, and I hope we'll be seeing much more of him.
Culina and Caravella were generally creative in midfield, while Jess Vanstrattan looks to be getting comfortable at last between the posts. Smeltzy's uncharacteristic misses had me thinking he might have woken up early (unlike his captain - http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/i-am-satisfied-with-our-group-264622) to watch the FIFA World Cup draw. If so, who can blame him?
Then there's Tahj Minniecon, whose deft flicks and exciting runs must have stopped many TV viewers flicking channels in the first half. The youngster's game is clearly lifting after his overseas jaunts with the Young Socceroos, and it will be a joy to watch him rip apart the Brisbane Roar's defence on Boxing Day.
Tahj might even get a little help from his old mate Charlie Miller, who starts training with United on Tuesday. The burly Scotsman might be just the attacking spark we need up front, but he'll have to work hard on the training paddock if he wants a run.
Actually, I'm a bit worried about playing Brisbane. Our Round One victory set them on a path of misery for the season, and their coach was sacked shortly after our second demolition job. What will happen after yet another good smacking from the neighbours? Nuclear meldown?
Oh well, at least it should be exciting. We might even manage to draw a crowd! We're off to avenge our first-ever loss to Newcastle next week, then we have a string of four home games over the New Year. Why would you go anywhere else for your Christmas holidays?
In retrospect, maybe we were lucky to play Lawrie's lads right now. With a small crowd in the stands and a lack of urgency on the pitch, this game sure felt a lot like a training match. Maybe it was. And maybe this was just the slow, steady workout Gold Coast United needed to wake up, turn our form around, rediscover some long-lost confidence, and set up an exciting race to the finish line.

For anyone who does not know who Gaz is, he's a bloody arrogant piece of shit who rights absolutely bullshit blogs on Gold Coast for fourfourtwo. He's always under the impression that Gold Coast are f**king champions and we are absolutely the worst club in every way. At least we have actually won something, don't have Jabba the Hut as goddam owner and have a crowd of some sort coming to our games. Can't f**king stand him at all with Gold Coast being "entertaining". He can f**king stare at the refs ass all he wants.
Thoughts?
