Big breaking story on Fury ...

http://www.theworldgame.com.au/a-league/fury-in-turmoil-237477

A-League newcomers North Queensland appear to be in difficulty already, the Fury losing a major financial backer and the club's CEO.

Fury chairman Don Matheson said in a statement on Monday night he would take over the day to day running of the club as part of a restructure that involves the departure of CEO Dean Hassall.

Rockhampton-based recruitment agency Minniecon and Burke has withdrawn its financial interest in the club.

Mitch and Blair Burke were enlisted by Matheson when he launched his bid for an A-League licence.

"A need for change had already been identified as part of this process, as there is for any business that is moving forward," Matheson said in the statement.

"The Fury has built something here in North Queensland which is successful - we have attracted the highest profile player ever in the Hyundai A-League in our marquee Robbie Fowler, we have great support in the community and a football team that is unbeaten in its last four matches."

"There's no denying it is a business though and North Queensland Fury FC has been fortunate to have a fantastic business relationship with Mitch Burke who, due to changes in his own business, has decided to move on.

"The club was able to reach an agreement with him and we wish him all the best.

"The Football Federation of Australia is fully supportive of the measures identified by the Fury in moving forward as a business.

"We are continually updating the FFA on the financial position of the club as part of our licence agreement."

Matheson said Hassall had resigned as part of the process to allow "a general renewal of approach and management of the club".

Fox are now running a similar article to SBS about Fury in trouble

Maybe this could mean a Licence being sent to Canberra ... maybe ... As how many clubs can FFA support ... that's if it goes that far...

A must watch...

Where does it say that Fury are going broke? Reorganisation/power grab at best.

anyone wanna go to the ASIC website and check how many times our board has reorganised, with people adding capital, changing voting weights, changing memberships... there have been a few, and we're one of the more stable ones.

this guy was probably a 'get it running' kinda guy, and they'll reorganise. not the death knell, but the sensational reporting is not at all helpful.

NQ's mentioned backup stadium, Tony Ireland/ Thuringowa Stadium, doesn't look too bad.

New stadium with praised facilities for players and media.

Im not sure the FFA would allow this but can clubs like Fury or Roar, have a stadium deal for the first half of the season when theyre getting crappy crowds, and play out of Ballymore and above Tony Ireland, then when the NRL season/finals finish, transfer over to Suncorp and Dairy Farmers for the rest of the season when crowds will then truly build?

they shouldn't back out of DFS. it's waving the white flag before they've even got their boots and jackets on.

they should stick out dairy farmers - as the season goes on they should improve. the media's not talking about the a-league yet, they're talking about f**king brownlow dresses and kickspoorly's cheekbone. after the NRL GF we'll get some clear air, and NQ and GC will start to improve.

It deserves its own thread!!! and why on earth would you choose to discuss the financial problems of NQ Fury in the Transfers and Rumours thread when the topic is primarily signings?

What he said.

Topics split with posts in appropriate threads.

Pretty sure the dudes went broke, and hence pulled out theeir cash. Dont think mattherson can afford the extra, hence he is going to asia/uk to look for partners, otherwise ffa will help out short term

They need 8500 to break even at DF?

They should surely be able to do that?

NRL is just about over, and if they string some good results together they could be up to 10k by season end.

They are around 8k now arent they?

Thats an average of 7,408...

Not too far away then...
But must be losing around 30k a home game at present if they need 8500 to break even.

Cant see this being a big problem. The ffa has a stake in adealide, and are thinking of having a stake in WSyd.

They were willing to put a stake in the roar.

Personally i think 8500 if they average that over the first season would be quite an achievement in their first year when they were hounded through the media from the start. Though I would be surprised if they thought that they would not be able to pick up crowds as the season goes on.

Still better crowds than Gold Coast and roar and scum are pulling, and not far behind us and nix.

they must be getting a reasonable stadium deal to only need 8500 to break even, either that or they are spending way under the salary cap?

I hope and am confident theyll pull through this, most clubs have had difficulty including us - they have a major sponsor so with a bit of extra funding theyll be right, and yeah once the thugby is over theyll improve their crowds, especially if their recent form continues.

I dont think the people would have pulled out, but apparently i read they had no contract, or their contracts got cancelled, and hence had no income.

Would surely be hard to price them out in townsville. But considering their prices are quite cheap, it seems they must go alright.

But reading today they were hoping for slight inprovements in their stadium and beer deals. But i would be thinking if they only need to get 1000 more people a game to break even they are doing bloody well, and would probably be one of the most proiftable teams in the comp if they do it and a reasonable investment.

Take out fowlers wage and they would be pretty much dead on without an increase in crowds.

I think they have a good future ahead

i think they'll get on with it and past this difficulty
id say matheson drives a hard bargain, and will always get
decent deals for his club, and if they can keep or improve on
recent weeks on the pitch, the crowds are bound to get behind them
