ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Finals 2 week break/postponment

Does the 2 week break in the midst of the finals cruel the momentum and/or devalue the worth in the public eye? Semis are historically are time of excitement in any of our sports, with both public and media hype at it's highest, casual fans being swept up in the occasion and the general anticipation after a long season.

In the midst of this anticipation, is it smart to risk putting a dampener on the momentum by asking/expecting people to go and sit in the corner and hold on to the excitement while the finals are postponed for two weeks to do something else?

Personally, i think it's a big ask of a fickle public and casual fans, the ones we rely on for big crowds in semis, to expect the level of interest to continue and with a  risk the momentum will cool. On the same note i think the international breaks in the aleague calender also causes a loss of momentum in the public mind. But that's another matter.

I'm aware of the requirements to play the socceroo game, but might it have been advisable to arrange the seasons aleague schedule to avoid a break in the seasons biggest public event, if possible?

Can see your point..

However FFA would have had to start the comp earlier or play more mid week games and neither was tried prior to this year... the early season start was very flat small crowds and we got hammered by the lack of media... going up against the AFL & NRL at the business end of their seasons is very very hard ...

It would help a lot if the AFC would aline their matches to FIFA dates ... but they don't so we are caught between a rock and a hard place.

Are the international breaks we have in the aleague necessary for the games played oversees without aleague players included or only several squad members? Or even the midweek internationals played in OZ, for that matter.

No they didn't ... they could have started LATER, so that the regular season had a break for ACL and Socceroos about R22 and then a 5 round run to R27, then the finals would have been free.  It would have also helped ease the WC problem.  FFA have no FI.
