The time for the Round of 32 is rapidly approaching, with the NSW Seventh Round matches being played next week:

• WNSW Mariners v Balmain Tigers - 12 May
• Sydney Olympic v South Coast Wolves - 13 May
• Sydney United 58 v Prospect United - 13 May
• Rockdale City Suns v Sutherland Sharks - 13 May
• Northern Tigers v Blacktown City - 13 May

The winners of these matches go through to the Round of 32... who knows, the Mariners could be travelling out to Bathurst to play the Mariners!

South Coast Wolves was an awesome road trip last season plus a lot of traveling fans also northern tigers would be good too cos i saw them play us in a pre-season trial game a few years ago but i don't know if their FFA cup Matches would be played @ mills park

Ethinicity in Football raises its ugly head again.

Amateur side Gwelup Croatia are due to face Perth FC & if they win they have been informed by FFA it has to change its name if it qualifies for the last 32 of the FFA Cup.

TWG's Craig Foster says there are 2 schools of thought on this;

"Firstly, the FFA policy (NCIP- National Club Identity Policy) stands & people think it's correct & therefore shouldn't be allowed into the competition under these terms."

"BUT, there already IN .... right? So when they put in their application to play why didn't FFA say NO you cant participate in games in that competition?"

"But Secondary to that I think they can challenge it in a court of this land, & it can't stand up according to this policy because surely the right to identify yourself through a religious or ethnic ties is a fundamental right in this country. So the FFA code according to that is that it can't stand up in the courts"

"I think at some point someone's going to challenge it. The wider issue is around the growth & development of the game, but does everyone have to wash away their allegiances in their club's, NO! Because that's what football club’s are "

Arguments proceeded on the panel about other Croatian clubs such as Syd United Melb. Knights etc having to change their names.

It all ended with Dzrilla announcing "there is another game going on with Darwin Olympic v Celtic FC, & neither of them have to change their names!"

The NCIP is meant to only apply if a club changes their name. The typical thing is that people cite Hakoah Sydney City East not having to change their name as proof that the NCIP is being applied in a racist fashion.

But Hakoah haven't changed their name. The NCIP shouldn't be applied to them.

Similarly, Gwelup Croatia haven't changed their name, so shouldn't have to change. I'm not really sure what the FFA argument is.

The question is moot, since Gwelup Croatia lost 4-3 to Perth SC.

That's how I also interpreted the NCIP.

Me'thinks the FFA hadn't envisioned a 'future' footballing landscape with opportunities for sub - A-League tiered teams to play televised games under their FFA branding (FFA Cup), way back when the NCIP was nutted out.

They way its written more or less says 'we'll accept you keeping your ethnic names/colours & you'll have to accept never being promoted to the A-League ......UNLESS YOU CHANGE YOUR NAME etc.'

If the AFC (which did make mutterings) or FIFA for that matter EVER enforce a second tier encompassing promotion/relegation this NCIP could become a major thorn in the FFA’S backside.

My stated views here (and elsewhere) have always been that there are no grounds for ethnicity in modern Australian Football. It has been a stumbling block and a barrier to expansion amongst the greater Australian population, and still is. The more ethnicity is allowed to claim a stake in Australian Football the lesser will be the support among those willing to become (converted) fans of this game. imho

With football becoming increasingly mainstream you would think a club is hurting themselves in the long run by limiting their market to a small minority.
It just seems like commercial sense to appeal to the whole community. These clubs might get left behind and end up irrelevant.

But an argument can be made that in a free country they should be allowed to call themselves whatever they want. (Within reason).

Walmsley questions FFA Cup scheduling

Central Coast coach Tony Walmsley has questioned the scheduling of the FFA Cup and says he may be forced to rest players for the Mariners' round-of-32 clash.

The matches for the final 32 will be played from July 28 to August 12, with the quarter-final stage brought forward this year compared to 2014.

The draw for the next round will be held on Wednesday, but Walmsley told FourFourTwo he could end up leaving out some of his more experienced Mariners from the cup game because of the risk of injury so early in their pre-season.

At this stage, the Mariners will go into the FFA Cup without a warm-up match, as they plan to start their pre-season later than several other A-League clubs.

“The timing of the round of 32 means we will be playing a game with only three weeks' preparation,” he said.

“We have to treat that first-round game as another pre-season opportunity. It’s probably come too soon. The timing isn’t ideal. If we’re able to get past the first round it’s a bonus.

“We’ll need to get the right players on the pitch with less injury risk. The likes of Joshua Bingham and Jake McGing will play a big role because of their match fitness."

Last year, the Mariners made it to the semi-finals, before eventual winners Adelaide United knocked them out.

Walmsley is an admirer of the FFA Cup but said the A-League remains his top priority.

“It’s a great competition,” he said.

“I obviously want to win the game but the A-League is my priority. Pre-season is important. I’d love a home draw in the cup ... [but] so early in our preparation, it would be a good time to play us.

“We’ll treat the round-of-32 match with caution. We may look at getting some trialists in for it."

Walmsley believes the draw for the final 32 could have been made sooner.

“I’d prefer the draw to be done earlier. At least we’d know what the date we’re playing is,” he said.

“It’s holding up our preparation. We might be able to get a game in [before it].”

Walmsley spent five years as a development officer with Football Federation Tasmania in the early 1990s.

He served as Tasmania’s state team coach at the national championships, running school development programs and coach education.

The Mariners boss would relish an FFA Cup tie against South Hobart FC, who have reached the round of 32 after a 4-0 win over Kingborough Lions.

The T-League side reached the same stage in 2014 before being knocked out by ACT’s Tuggeranong United on penalties.

That potential meeting will have to wait, with the Mariners certain to play a fellow A-League club in the round of 32 as they sit in Pot B - with five other top-flight clubs who will be drawn to face each other.

“I’d love to play South Hobart,” Walmsley said.

“Ken [Morton] is an outstanding coach.”

FFA CUP ROUND OF 32 FIXTURE DATES CONFIRMED

Football Federation Australia (FFA) officially released the fixture details for the FFA Cup Round of 32, with Palm Beach's meeting with South Melbourne at Cbus Stadium the first match to be broadcast live on Wednesday 29 July, while Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC and Brisbane Roar's trip to Western Sydney also set to be televised.

The other matches on match day 1 of the Westfield FFA Cup 2015 Round of 32 include Broadmeadow Magic FC v Heidelberg United FC, Blacktown City FC v MetroStars SC and Hume City FC v Brisbane Strikers FC where there will be single camera coverage to ensure that every goal is captured.

The second match day of the Westfield FFA Cup 2015 Round of 32 will be on Tuesday 4 August and features the David and Goliath battle between the Balmain Tigers FC and Melbourne Victory at Leichhardt Oval.

On the same evening, Melbourne City will fly to the Hunter region to meet the Edgeworth Eagles, Capital Football’s representative club, Gungahlin United FC, will take on Sydney Olympic FC and in a re-match of the 2013 NPL Grand Final, Sydney United 58 FC will host South Hobart.

Match day three of the Westfield FFA Cup 2015 Round of 32 will have a Western and Central Australian theme running through it with the Jamie Harnwell coached Sorrento FC hosting the Graham Arnold led Sydney FC in the feature broadcast match, whilst at the same time Darwin Olympic SC will meet Adelaide United in Darwin, South Australia’s Croydon Kings will be taking on Lions FC and Perth SC will make the cross country trip to meet Rockdale City Suns FC in Sydney.

Outstanding results for Hume City and Palm Beach - they've both knocked out former national champions.

MetroStars knocking off Blacktown City isn't *that* big a surprise; MetroStars are the reigning South Australian and National NPL Champions and they knocked off South Melbourne and Bonnyrigg on the way so it was no fluke.

Heidelberg over Broadmeadow is a bit of a shame, their second R32 exit in two attempts.
