ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Cricket - question about scoring

Not much of a cricket fan really but this has always intrigued me.
Why does Australia put the wickets before the runs when putting up a score eg. 9/127 instead of 127/9 like all the other cricketing nations?

Being a member of the cricket fraternity for many years, and a previous scorer and coach, I have asked this of others many times. Never really got a decent answer except maybe to be different. lol. If I do find out will post, however there are some great minds who post on the forum and you may get a better answer to your question. I'm intrigued too.

is it 'all the other nations'? i got the impression that NZ did it our way. i don't know about the saffers, but as you're getting the british feed for the present tests that doesn't help much. as for the subcontinent, i've no idea.

as for why it started - to a certain extent the first point of interest is how many wickets are down. are they none-fa? if so, it almost doesn't matter what the runs are, they've got nine in the shed still. if they're nine-fa, they'd want to have some runs on the board.

from a bowler's point of view it's all about the wickets - a nice spell of tidy bowling for few runs is less easily recalled than the day you got five for a million.

Its as simple as this.

In Australia, we have multitudes of world class batsman whereas all other nations do not! I mean we've got county quality cricketers running around in 3rd grade on the coast!

More often than not, the runs column is large and you only worry about how many they've scored once its your turn to bat.

;D ;D ;D ;D :p :p :p :p

It's a bit like the Americans putting the away team Ist......

i.e. instead of CCM v Sydney it would be Sydney @ CCM

Anyway it's only Cricket so who gives a toss!........................

I once heard of a Pom having a severe heart attack when he asked an Aussie about the score in the Test and was told "none for 9".  :)

As for why we do it the way we do, I've no idea. I suspect it may have come about because we wanted to be different. After all, we've only bowled 6-ball overs since WSC came in. Before that we had 8.
