Central Coast Mariners to build $40m football complex
By John Taylor
December 17, 2008 CENTRAL Coast will take club football in Australia to a new level with a $40 million project.
The 9ha complex at Tuggerah is a joint venture of Wyong RSL and the Mariners Trust.
As well as seven full fields, including a boutique stadium and five five-a-side fields, there will be a 120-room accommodation block.
"It will be ... where rival A-League clubs, plus international teams, can stay and train," Trust chairman Peter Turnbull said.
The RSL will benefit greatly from the development because the licensed club is to be refurbished and extended.
The Mariners Trust already has the blessing of the Wyong Shire Council.
The complex will also have a six-storey administration building, sports science block, indoor aquatic centre, world class gymnasium and a function centre for 400 people.
"Our national youth league team and Westfield women's team will play competition games at the boutique stadium," Turnbull said.
The Mariners expect council approval in June and work to begin in early January, 2010.
"It is a great union of two community-minded organisations that will now create a magnificent community asset," said Turnbull.
