First up Brisbane are a very good side. VERY good.

For me, after taking in all their brilliant passing, awesome shape, pressure, runs off the ball etc etc etc, they seem to win games off the back of spectacular efforts on goal too often. Tonight they are 2 goals up off of a left foot voley from a DM delivered from wide and a left foot strike outside the area with 3 defenders on 1 striker. Don't get me wrong they are by far the better side tonight but for alot of other teams those speccys just dont go in often.

This is not just a one off either. Go back to games where Brisbane have looked like loosing or being kept to a draw and its often a speccy that gets them out of trouble. Our game up in Brisbane this year or our last game in Gosford as proof.

Is it something Postecoglou is doing, has he recruited good strikers of the ball, is it a training method, or is it just plain luck?

I'm thinking its a bit of all 3 and is the main difference between our clubs ATM. When is the last time you saw an absolutley spectacular goal from the Mariners. That 1 in 100 strike that drops your jaw and plays over in your mind days after.

I think this is what its going to take to beat this team. A rub of the green on a speccy, a volley hit perfectly, a strike with shape that just eludes the keepers grasp. A bit of Brisbane luck.

The point you make about those goals from their midfield is quite astute.... I remember when we had Hutch, Tommy & Grummy in the midfield and they often scored it was a real sting to our attack... our present midfield Olly & weeMac just can't seem to score and Amini got his first last night maybe its the monkey off his back ...

I rate our current midfield the best we have had ... but Perez aside the rest struggle in front of goal...

wow, thats the exact point ive been thinking about...

i feel the thing that got them 1st and us 2nd this season is 3 goals to the grinch and 3 goals to olly, a few of those losses would have been draws and a few draws would have been wins.

if we can keep this same team for next season and improve our finishing we win hands down.

Great post Scottmac.

I agree re long range wonder shots, and the fact confidence works wonders would be my first thought.
I also think Roar over the course of the year Roar have also been a bit more mobile than us, so i'm not sure if that's helped open the space a little more to shoot aswell? Possibly.

Anyhow tonight against the jets with that wet pitch and slippery ball, I was very keen to see a lot more fired off to test Kennedy and was wondering about why we didn't.

Tonight aside though, I guess we have seen Weemac and Olly take plenty of shots from outside this year, and while they can both strike a ball very well, they haven't been going in, so perhaps their confidence would not now be as high as it could be which would possibly contribute as much to their not scoring as the Roars confidence in bagging a few does to their belief in scoring form range.

Also Pedj has had shots but of course not the success of Franjic. Paartalu > Griffiths...

But they could as you say possibly just be smashing them in at training on a regular basis as well?

It's an interesting one and I think you make a very good case... though perhaps what it would take for us to win the GF is not for one of our speculators to go in.... But rather Roar to go through a few games against us when there's do not.

Man...
BRING IT ON!!!

Watching the practice shooting, before last weeks game .Was ordinary, lots of misses.
If you miss in practice ,you miss game time.

Noticed that too, in fact something I've noticed all season. The only guys hitting the net on Sunday were Musti & Bernie. Don't think I saw Macca get one, Kwassie was terrorising Bay 16, Bozza was terrorising the young ballboy & WeeMac wasn't even there.
You realise of course it's all Mossie's fault, don't you? He's not passing the ball to where the guys are running. :piralaugh:
