D-Day approacheth - make yourselves heard
Mark Bosnich From: The Daily Telegraph November 06, 2010 12:01AM
AS SOCCER enters a crucial month leading to a massive day in its history - D-Day, December 2nd, World Cup Hosting Decision Day - I would like to begin this final furlong with a plea for unity and help from arguably the most important people in the game. You, the supporters.
It's your interest that buys the Fox Sports subscriptions, the match tickets, and the merchandise that ultimately generates the money needed to run the professional game.
And it is you, the supporters, who need to be respected, treated right and, most importantly, listened to when it comes to how the game can face its many challenges.
So I put it out there to you, the loyal fans.
Next Wednesday, the FFA will be conducting a workshop to be led by Lyall Gorman, head of the Hyundai A-League, with input from CEO Ben Buckley and Rod Allen, head of media relations.
The objective of the workshop is to recommend policies that will help improve the A-League.
Now, it's no secret that the A-League has experienced some difficult times recently.
But what does not kill you can make you stronger.
God gave us two ears and one mouth. There is a school of thought that this was a blessing bestowed upon us so that we could listen twice us much as we speak.
And in welcoming opinions and ideas from all parties, the FFA must be commended for initiating discussion like this.
And I'm asking you, the fans, to send me your thoughts by email to news@dailytelegraph.com.au or matchdaysaturday@foxsports.com.au. Or call into The Weekend Detention on 2GB this Saturday or Sunday with your ideas or notions on how to meet these challenges and overcome the obstacles that we face in becoming the best we can be as a sporting code.
I don't care which background you come from, whether it be a soccer one or not, just help me to help you in going forward.
I will endeavour to read out every email I receive between now and Wednesday at that meeting.
Those that I cannot read (due to time considerations or any other reason), I give you my word - I will be leaving them in the in-tray at the FFA.
Everyone remember, you are the customer and, as in any fair dinkum business, the customer is king.
And with your thoughtful input along with persuasive debate, anything can be achieved.
The worst thing that anyone can do is to be indifferent.
No one wants that. I would like you all to feel as much a part of the process as anyone.
And you can do that by caring enough to have your say.
You just never know what may come out of it.
So I leave it to you, the supporters. Have your say.
