ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Toyotas are coming back into it next year.

not that its any different.. the cars are all pretty much exactly the same; engines, tyres, break callipers, gearboxes....
The only thing different is the holden and ford shells.

As much as I hate car racing it must be noted that events such as these and formula one have brought many advances to car technology that has increased both the fuel efficiency and safety of the everyday cars we use.

The net benefit of these advances must surely be tipped in favour of the environment, social good (less people dying and maimed) and the economy (tourism and decreased health costs).

Sigh!
As it's been said before, If you dont like it, why bother posting in the thread?

I love cars, and I love watching Bathurst.

Do you even drive dibo?

Are you sure they'll have Toyotas in it next year. I didnt know they were making a V8 production car.

i drive jimmy, but whether i do or not, bathurst is a farce.

two different brands of essentially the same thing - v8 power, live rear axle, aerodynamically identical and every strip of innovation and imagination ruthlessly hounded out. the technology is stagnant - they're running rear suspension setups that the production models ditched 10 years ago. neither company makes a 5-litre v8 car any more, and haven't done for years. they're 5.4 and 5.7.

toyota doesn't sell a rear drive sedan here, let alone a rear drive v8 sedan. if we're going to play that game, why don't we revive mitsubishi's 380 and put them out there too? but be sure not to let BMW, mercedes and audi in, or else you'll have your arses handed to you.

i prefer the old group A days, or even the group Cs - actually production based cars and you'd have real variety.

there were in my memory ford capris (the old rear drive v8 ones, not the laser-based convertibles), jaguar v12s, nissan skylines, mitsubishi starions, bmw m3s, mercedes benzes, volvos... all sorts of things. there was something to be interested in, and genuine variety.

now it's just... taxis with wings.

Bathurst is an awesome event for motor racing fans. Its one of the best circuits in the world; only eclipsed by some of the most renowned circuits like spa and hockenheim (the full circuit - not the sterile version of today).

V8 Supercars are hugely powerful, relatively light, have excellent stopping power, handle very well, sound great and produce exciting, close racing where passing is common. The category is extremely competitive and professional with less than a second per lap seperating most of the field on a typical race weekend.

Sure, these cars are not something you can buy off the showroom floor, but you would have to be fairly naive or unfamiliar with motorsport to believe that these machines would really be anything but a falcon or commodore shell fitted out entirely with racing parts. One thing they certainly DO NOT resemble is a taxi LOL. If any of those taxi drivers in Perth or Adelaide had a V8 Supercar I would most certainly be dead by now.

Motorsport is certainly not environmentally friendly and I think they have been slow to realise the importance of this aspect of their image now and in the future. Technology leaps don't tend to eminate from restricted series such as V8 Supercars but rather Formula 1 where things like traction control, stability control, antilock braking systems and the like have seen hugely accelerated development. Formula 1 is currently implementing KERS technology which should also assist in the development of green roadgoing vehicles. Motor racing is never going to be the most environmentally friendly sport, however, it can be argued that reducing the carbon footprint of the human race does not necessarily require the elimination of every carbon producing activity in the world; it just means that a balance has to be found and every step that motorsport takes to reduce its carbon footprint is a step in the right direction.

I've been enjoying Bathurst since the early seventies and I reckon its as exciting as ever. This year's event was perhaps one of the less eventful one in recent times, but you can bet that won't become any sort of precedent for future events. You've only got to head up the mountain for a Bathurst weekend and see what these drivers are doing to appreciate that mistakes, bad luck and the weather are always going to be big part of this event.
