Why FFS?

Compromising photos of Pim and Lowy I bet :p

Moore because he'll probably be next to Neill at the World Cup. Djite for the reason you mentioned, he's young(and hopefully therefore motivated to prove a point). I agree re: Ruky, surely he's worth at least a place in the squad

I think you may be onto something about those photos ... If Matty Sperio could get some match time he is my choice for Neil's other CB.

Moore lacks pace but is extremely solid. Hard as and clever, I'm not unhappy with him in there tbh. But think if groomed Mile could probably do the job better however.

Holman... I know... who doesn't...
Have watched a few game lately and he truly does go quite well in the Eredivisie...
BUT on a national level, he has been well beyond useless.

No Nikita... No McDonald...
But Bruce?

Confusing. Rather have Archie in there than Bruce.
And rather for now at least have a look at Nikita than either of them.
That kind of pace can win games.

Sterjovski has done nothing recently to deserve his position. Surely we have someone far better on the right who deserves selection over him.

Moore hasn't been in the best form either. Here's hoping that someone is knocking on the door of first-team selection because the guy needs a push-along that he's not getting at the Roar.

I'd love to see Jedinak get a start instead of the more-than-useless Carl Valeri but I just don't see it happening. It'll be a jammy 1-0 or a dire 0-0 draw. It's really another must-win to be honest. A draw or loss puts us at great risk going into the last two games.

To replace Kennedy thats whats so strange.

Brosque is having a great season but target man he is not.

Not that you guys will agree (fair enough) but its good to finally see a Sydney player's form go noticed by Pim Verbeek, even if its just for injury cover. We don't have another Josh Kennedy in our line-up and considering he wasn't going to use McDonald anyway, there's no point in calling him up late now. Brosque offers something a bit different, although I don't think we will see the guy play any minutes in Oman this weekend.

*cough* Matt Simon

Would have picked him over Brosque as a replacement for Kennedy. I mean the guy is going to ride this 90 out on the pine so why pick a guy that does not fit in his system. If Kewell cops a knock Brosque will not get time. If Djite cops a knock Brosque will not get time.

The only place Brosque would fit is in a No.10 role and we have a plethora of them ATM.

Weird pick?

Brosque (sub) and Carney (starter) to share left wing duties then??  Maybe even give Dario a run??  He's been a gun off the bench. God forbid Holman starts there though....  :naughty:  :vomit: :redcard:

Harry Kewell says he will relish the chance to play as a striker for the Socceroos if coach Pim Verbeek decides to put him up front for the Asian Cup qualifier against Oman in Musc**t on Sunday morning.

Josh Kennedy's late withdrawal and the non-selection of Scott McDonald has heightened speculation Kewell will be the target man as Australia bids to sew up a spot at the Asian Cup finals in Qatar in 2011.

Speaking for the first time about a possible switch from the wing to a solo striking role, Kewell said it was something he would welcome.

"People tend to forget that I had probably three of my best seasons playing as a striker -- two with Leeds United and one with Liverpool," Kewell said.

"I enjoy playing in that position, I enjoy scoring and I enjoy being the leading man."

Normally known better as a left-sided attacking midfielder, Kewell has been in great goal-scoring touch this season playing as a striker with his Turkish club Galatasaray and his form has caught the attention of Verbeek.

The Dutchman showed his hand when he switched Kewell from midfield to up-front after replacing Kennedy at half-time in the friendly against The Netherlands in Sydney. While he did not score, he clearly sparked up the attack.

With Kennedy and McDonald, who was unfortunate to be left out of the 23-man squad, absent and only the inexperienced Bruce Djite remaining as a specialist striker, Verbeek appears to have no other option than to use Kewell.

Kewell has predicted another tough match against Oman, who pushed Australia to the limit in a 1-0 loss in Melbourne in October.

Oman created plenty of chances in the first half and gave the full-strength Socceroos food for thought.

"It is international football . . . you are always going to get a tough game no matter who you play," he said.

"Look what happened against Holland.

"I know we had done well before against them but they came to Australia expecting a tough match and we showed them a tough match. It's no different against Oman."

Brosque would likely play wide in the 4-2-3-1. He has played as the lone striker in that formation before but I don't think that's advisable at international level.

Pim said he has enough strikers so if he didn't pick McDonald, why the hell would he pick Matt Simon? No offence.
