England may visit Australia

THE Socceroos could be in the mix to host England in a friendly next year.
England will play Thailand in Bangkok in June and there is speculation coach Fabio Capello's team may extend the trip for one more game in the Asia-Pacific region, making Australia, Japan and South Korea potential opponents.
The Guardian website yesterday reported tentative discussions had been held about adding another friendly to the trip, which follows a European Championship qualifier against Switzerland on June 4.
The report said the English Football Association had privately indicated it would want to stay within southeast Asia. While playing in Australia was not out of the question, it was not a preferred destination.
Dates are also a possible barrier to a Socceroos-England game with Football Federation Australia looking at June 1 and 4 for friendlies, which would clash with England's qualifier.

"We have regular contact with the English FA and have had various discussions over the years about the two nations playing again," an FFA spokesman said last night.
"To meet the schedule (suggested) it would mean playing on June 10 or 11 and that may not suit our plans.
"We would always be interested in a rematch with England either here in Australia or in Europe."
Opposition from the Premier League clubs is another sticking point that could prevent England adding an extra game.
The clubs would prefer their stars resting during the off-season rather than traipsing across the world to risk injury in meaningless friendlies.
