Australia- 2011 Asian Cup and 2014 World Cup Campaigns

After Australia's involvement in this world cup there was obviously disappointment in the loss to Germany as well as the refereeing decisions though some positives have come from South Africa.

Luke Wilkshire - Has continuously shown he is among Australia's best and has proven yet again in this world cup. Always solid at the back and generally one of our greatest attacking threats. At 28 years of age i'd be surprised if we don't see Ratboy in Brazil.

Carl Valeri - When Grella has been looking shaky and is not getting any younger Valeri has been waiting patiently and has finally gotten a chance in Australia's midfield. He took he chance wonderfully, especially in the Ghana match, and continually broke up the African's play as well as putting through wonderful balls to our front men.

Brett Holman - Without doubt Australia's best player throughout this world cup. This man has been under so much criticism in the last few years and everyone was hoping he would not make it even into the final 23. Given his chance through Cahill's suspension he proved that he was up to the standard and scored a cracker against Serbia. Would be disappointed if we don't see him starting in Brazil.

These 3 men have in my opinion been our greatest players throughout this world cup and are also the future of Australia. Lucas Neill was magnificent but he now is 32 and will be 36 before the next world cup. I would not expect to see him there unfortunately along with Kewell, Grella, Emerton, Schwarzer, Bresciano and Chippers.

Thank god Moore will finally retire before then...

Though although all of these players are getting older and will be retiring i'm looking up to our up and coming stars. In my opinion, our 2014 starting line up will be:

                              Federici
Wilkshire      Beauchamp    Ogmonster    R.Williams
                                Valeri
                      Cahill            Holman
Vidosic                                              T.Oar
                            Rukavytsya

Bench:
Vukovic,
Heffernan,
Jedinak,
Scott McDonald,
Carney,
Carle.

I understand this wouldn't be others preferred XI, so please tell me (based on current form) who you'd like to see in Brazil 2014.

Yeah, I believe he was unfairly left out of the provisional world cup squad.

He's classified as Macedonian.
He got left out of Asian Cup qualifier squads so put himself up for selection for Macedonia rather than us..

He was eligible, but wasn't selected by Pim.
He'll be about 35 in 2014!  Hardly an up and coming star.

Suggest more the Asian Cup and friendlies

As an aside I tho Moore had an outstanding second game but like you his time has come.. also Nicky ... we shall see in SFC next season...

For mind there are heaps of young players coming tho... add Troisi, Davidson, Burns, Sperio, Lowy as in Shane,  and I am sorry to say Holland to name but a few... never forget the Mariners this year have 4 very talented young players...

We do not ahve a Harry or a Dukes but we do have heaps of talent..

Yeah, but hasn't yet been used by Macedonia, is still eligible for us.
Feel he's getting better with age and may be able to play a bit part in Brazil.
Otherwise, Spiro.

Rhys Williams at left back?

Rhys Williams is very versatile and can play anywhere in the backs or midfield.

Hah, didn't look at that. Thought he was around 26 or so now.
Yeah, confirmed yesterday. I'm new coach until after 2014 world cup effective immediately.

Tim Cahill will also be going on 35

The cupboard is looking a little bare without the existing A level players. Do we cross our fingers and hope the existing unproven youngsters can replace and step up to the level of  Cahill, Kewell, Emerton, Schwarzer, Bresciano, Neill ect.?

I don't think Schwarzer, Moore, Grella, chippers or Neill will be there in 4 years. However, Kewell has said he wants to play on. So I have included anyone up to his age.

Try to pick 23 from these.

Bouzanis    23
Langerak   25
Federici   29
Jones   32

Lowry     25
Carney   30
Spiranovic  25
Milligan   28
Beauchamp 33
Bosnar      34
Kisnorbo   33
Williams   25
Wilkshire   32

Kantarovski 22
Holland   25
Jedinak   29
Valeri   29
Oar   22
Bozanic   25
Vidosic   27
Bresciano   34
Armini   21
Markelis   22
Holman   30
Cahill   34
Kilkenny   28
Garcia   32
Culina 33
Emerton 35

Bulut   22
Leckie   23
Mooy   23
Burns   26
Djite   27
Rukavysta 27
McDonald 30
Kennedy 31
Kewell 35

I think it will be a very hard squad to pick injuries not withstanding especially the backs.

Another couple to throw into the mix would be;

Kofi Danning, SFC
Scott  Jameison, SFC
Joel Griffiths, Sacksville
Tahj Minnecon, Cruntsville
James Brown, Cruntsville
Sean Rooney, Scumsville
David Williams, NQFC

Kofi Danning would have to have a more than reasonable chance of being included in squads over the next four years.

Brazil is 4 years away so what about the Asian Cup next year. Who will make that team?

Thread hijacker.  Why don't you start a 2011 Asian Cup team thread?
