Why I Love Pim,

He got us to the 2010 FIFA WORLD CUP!
He stands by his beliefs and will not change them to suit the critics!
He gets points away from home and ensures that our best players represent the country whenever possible.
No club v country debates as Pim has full control.

AND FINALLY

He got us to the 2010 FIFA WORLD CUP!

Now we have qualified I will be quietly interested in what Craig Foster has to say about Verbeek's coaching this afternoon on SBS.

No doubt Foster will probably argue that it wasn't pretty or that such and such plasyer wasn't properly utilised. If Foster does do that, he'll show his real lack of class to all and sundry I reckon.

The most sportsmanship thing Foster could do now is to shut the f**k up, congratulate Pim and the team for qualifying and get behind them all the ay to South Africa.

You know that wont happen.

Well you have to ask what is Foster's beef then?

OK, some of the games Australia played were not good text book examples of how beautiful the game can be played or blessed with technical brilliance by either the players themselves or by the coach's strategy, but bugger me, we got through with two games spare, and just on twelve months to the WC itself.

Verbeek can now play younger players and see how they cope without the pressure of losing the whole campaign, he can afford to be nice to European clubs who may want Australia to rest players from national duty, he can afford to change strategies and see it fares with the players he has.

All up, a very comfortable scenario for Australia leading into the World Cup and the hope is that the style of play that Australia plays will improve as a result.

I greatly appreciate Verbeek's bluntness on some issues, and I think he has been the right choice for the times Australia have had to go through in this campaign. I doubt the almighty Guus or Dick Advocaat could have done better.

Dont forget, Fosters brief is to slag anything HAL, Pim and the game here in general until we reach the technical standards of play he desires.

Sadly for him, he will remain at zero credibility until he puts his coaching criticism where his mouth is.

Till then STFU.

I remember seeing an article about Football where someone gave the likes of Foster a sleight of hand backhander by mentioning that some critics don't even hold any coaching certificates. Wonder what qualifications Foster possesses other than being a player from a by gone (Thank f**k) era.

I think that SBS does have the ability to talk to Foxtel about FTA coverage, it's just that they simply do not have the money to make a serious bid for the rights (and since then, Foxtel and the FFA have entered into a new agreement so maybe there is some exclusivity clause now that the A-League is up and running).

Clarence, rightly or wrongly SBS come across as a collection of sad bastards with a gripe because they don't have the rights to show either the A-league or Australian games.

If they had the rights there's no way Foster would be as critical as he is of the local game or the national team imo.

I'd like to see that tosser take the reigns of an A-league team and have them playing like Barcelona since he seems to think this should be the case everywhere regardless of budgets etc

Arabmariner, I tend to agree with the cynicism about Foster's comments correlating to SBS's loss of TV rights.

And if Foster took the reins of an A-League club they'd be broke after one season and having to answer to the FFA about their salary cap, if he got the players he wanted. But they still wouldn't be a winner, as I doubt he has coaching ability - I'm sure he'd be doing that now if he thought he'd be good at it.

I love Pim for the reasons aforementioned by bulldog. The fact that this was our first time qualifying in a new region where conditions were often very difficult and extremely varied is fantastic, not to mention the fact that we have 2 HOME games that are dead rubbers now (hence getting the job done away from home). I have no doubt that Pim will be able to harness the best qualities of our lads and prepare a force for South Africa. He has given himself plenty of time after all....

SOCCEROOS glamour boy Tim Cahill yesterday declared his "love" for Pim Verbeek and rated his management skills superior than his predecessor Guus Hiddink.

Cahill said the Dutchman should be given a huge pat on the back for engineering Australia's second successive World Cup finals appearance under difficult qualifying circumstances.
Speaking after the Socceroos returned from Doha where they secured the necessary point to reach South Africa next year, Cahill spoke openly about the different qualities of the high-profile Hiddink and the lesser-known Verbeek.

"It was weird playing under Guus," Cahill said. "He's such a fantastic person and someone who is loved throughout the world, but it was difficult because you didn't understand his feelings and didn't understand where you were at sometimes.

"Under Guus he'd give you a job and that was it. I know (under Pim) that if I have a problem whether it's on the pitch or off the pitch . . . I can ring him.

"But you don't have to like your manager, you don't have to love your manager. You don't have to love who you work for and the good thing is I love playing for this manager.

"I know exactly what I am doing under Pim. I know I am going to run for 90 minutes and I know the boss is going to stand by me 100 per cent.

"And it is the same for every player. When we finish a game he just doesn't say to the 11 players 'well done', he says it to the 29 players who are there and to the staff and to the kit man and everyone."

The more i see and hear of Pim and the team under him the more i think he is a great manager and a top bloke. Definitely a suitable replacement for Gus.

He has done a good job with the team, espically in the defence considering we dont have all that much depth in the defence besides neill, not having let in a goal is a great and i think him concentrating alot on defence is the best thing for us to win games, even though it may not be very exciting to watch at times if we were to play all out attacking, like the media want us to do, i think we would have let in alot more goals during this qualifying campaign and might not be in the position we are in now

Yes. I like the fact that he doesn't have the players do the dancing bear routine that the media wants of them.

As we all said last time that the media whinged that limited access to players leaves them nothing to write about: Think about the game of football for a moment and you will have an endless amount to write about. I don't want to hear about Neill's favourite song.

I love Australia going to the WC.
Pim got Australia to the WC.
I don't yet love him though.
I love Australia performing well at the WC.
I will have to take a wait and see approach re Pim Man Love.

Top, top analogy.  Thing is, outlets like the Telegraph are so used to it with Rugby League and what not doing whatever it takes to get publicity, that they think every other sport should just do as they command and it will happen.

Why not a thoughtful and insightful analysis into why we havn't conceded in over 700 minutes, and Schwarzer now holds a FIFA record for "time not conceded in a qualifying campaign"??  Or instead of lambasting Pim for a "second string" side (hardly), why not talk about who some of these 'second stringers' are and what they bring to the game??

I know that requires them to actually be journalists, but still..... not that hard, surely??

Pim Verbeek was hardly the household name many were expecting when the Socceroos announced their new coach 18 months ago. In fact, most people had never heard of him......But nobody can dispute he has been the right man for the job now that he has led Australia to the World Cup with plenty of time to spare and top of our group after Japans draw.

Pim was appointed with one assignment - get the Socceroos to South Africa. - and Australias 0-0 draw with Qatar in Doha last Sunday morning ensured he passed with flying colours.

Pim been tactically shrewd and his preparation has been amazing..Frank Lowy and FFA have got to take a lot of credit for bring him in and getting us playing the way were playing.

The win last night took his record to ten wins, six draws and three losses in his 19 games in charge. One of those losses was against China in a dead rubber when he played the A-League side.

Why i love Pim!

He can sing our national anthem in English his 2nd language and has developed a passion for his new nation.
Bring on South Africa where Aussie Pim will prove his worth and shut the critics up as we go further in a World Cup Finals than ever before.
