EXCLUSIVE: North Queensland FC have held informal talks with Graham Arnold as speculation mounts FFA will release the embattled coach from his FFA contract two years short of its expiration date.
North Queensland FC bid head Don Matheson confirmed to au.fourfourtwo.com today that they'd had an "informal chat" with Arnold about the post.
"There are 4-5 short-listed for the coach's job but we aren't going to do say much until we get the official go-ahead from FFA," he said today.
"You [au.fourfourtwo.com] probably know more about it than I do."
It's expected that FFA will announce the two new clubs for next year's expanded A-League later this week. NQ FC is expected to get over the line for season five along with Gold Coast United.
"Graham Arnold is in the mix," admitted Matheson. "I've met him informally to talk about the job and to see if he's interested.
"We think he is a capable A-League coach but there are others too."
He added: "The formal interviews will be done fairly soon by our technical director Blair Burke and we'd expect the coach to be announced in a couple of weeks if and when we get the go-ahead from FFA."
Other coaching candidates to have been bandied around include Gary Van Egmond and Branko Culina.
Insiders tell au.fourfourtwo.com that the FFA "want Arnold off their books" and the North Queensland post would appear to be an ideal solution for ridding themselves of someone who's been derided mercilessly by Aussie fans since the Olyroos' poor showing in China this month
As one of those who has been deriding him mercilessly, I hope this is true.
ROFL at the dimwit from buttf**k NQ who reckons he is a capable A League coach. Based on what?? He has failed miserably in every coaching role he has ever had.
Oh well, NQ for wooden spoon then
