ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

A-League Socceroos V A-League Internationals - Match

Lyall Gorman is currently kit flying an A-League all stars match as a season opener.

The advantage Football has over AFL & NRL is an overseas player base. Australia currently has give or take about 200 players overseas. We also have 43 not counting Kiwis players from overseas playing in the A-League. Currently each club can have 5 overseas players.

Lyall wants to start the season with a starting match that is the signal next week we start. His idea at this stage is that the best overseas players playing in the A-League in a match against the A-League’s best. The match to be played in a centre that does not have an A-League team i.e. Canberra, Coffs Harbours etc.

He sees it as a ratings winner, A-League Socceroos V and overseas best from the A-League. He argues further it would give the Australia coach a good look at many fringe Socceroos. He believes that both the A-League coach and the All Stars coach should be coaching in the A-League. The marketing is clever as it would highlight how much talent there is in the league and maybe have some of the Euro snobs watch.

Who would not go to see Kewell and Emerton versus Broich and Hernandez.. wow … it would also highlight the best players in the league for fans and supporters.

I like the idea it has enormous appeal from every angle I can think of. Clubs, the players union, players would need to agree. The through of a season ending injury would way heavily on the mind of club administrators.

However the water cooler talk about who should the coaches be, who should play in the game, and where to play it would be excellent for the game and provide some media during the AFL & NRL final series.

Wh? Bu? You on the wacky weed again MF?
Aren't we about to open our season... by actually opening our season?
Who the f**k would want to release their players to a meaningless friendly?
2 months ago. Football starved, I may have felt differently. But now? As a "season opener" What on earth??

I wouldn't want to see my season start by watching Dutchy play for some silly international elect team alongside players form rival clubs. Makes my skin crawl.

Man I'm a scrooge around here of late, but at this juncture this sounds just like utter shite to me.

Im not against one of these matches, but surely the only time you could schedule it is during a fifa weekend break (which we are not having this season) or at the end of season (which would be an anti climax following the final for me).

Cant imagine coaches wanting to release players going into the final 2 weeks of preseason
